Green Bay West CSR Noelle DeWitt remembers a lively annual holiday hunt:
When we were younger, we would all go over to my mom’s best friend Karen’s house. We would go sledding and snowboarding, but the big event was finding the pickle ornament on the Christmas tree! We would all be in another room while Karen hid the ornament in the tree. She’d call us out, and the race was on to be the first to spot the pickle. The winner would get a prize, and we’d continue until everyone had won at least once. I’m thinking about restarting this tradition for my nieces and nephews!
For the curious, here’s a bit more on the history of the Christmas pickle.
Previously: Homemade tamales and cinnamon rolls to celebrate Christmas
We have the same tradition at our home with my kids and my nieces and nephew. As each child got a prize, they would sit out the next round. When the kids got older I had to purchase a smaller pickle ornament (about 1 inch in size) so it would be more difficult for the kids to find. Sometimes I was sneaky and had 3 pickles on the tree all at once just to confuse them.
Noelle,
This sounds like such a fun activity that I hope to share it with our family, too.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
