Summer plans: Retirement, geocaching, family celebrations

Shorelines readers have been sharing the summer activities they’re most looking forward to:

For Research and Special Payments Specialist Sharon Link, this will be a particularly exciting summer. As she writes, “I am anticipating my most exciting summer yet.  After 38 ½ years in banking, along with holding two other jobs in my life, I am retiring on June 7. My husband has been retired for many years already, and while we have taken great vacations, we’ve always had to come back so that I could get back to work. Our kids live in Colorado, and now, when we go to visit, we can stay until they’re sick of our company! Last year, we bought a convertible and hope to enjoy many warm summer days driving with the top down. Our trailer parked at River Bend Campground in Watertown has given us the opportunity to enjoy our spring, summer and fall weekends, but now we will be able to stay over without having to drive home on Sunday evening. Obviously, the campground is much different during the week — it’s peaceful, and you have the ability to get any lounge chair you want up at the pool. Not the case on a summer weekend! A couple of rodeo trips will round out what should be a very enjoyable summer.”

Sounds idyllic! We’ll post a full story next Thursday in honor of Sharon’s retirement.

Sarah Bauer, Assistant Branch Manager–Sales at Howard, says, “I am excited to spend time with my 10-year-old daughter, Gracie, outside this summer. She loves to go geocaching, and we already have several day trips planned. The only thing left to do is buy her a new handheld GPS so she can lead us to the treasure.”

And Northside Teller Rebecca Cairns writes, “My parents are taking our whole family up north for a long weekend this summer for two very special celebrations! My mom is turning 60, and my parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary! Our family is only able to get together as a whole family a few times a year, usually Thanksgiving and Christmas. I look forward to these get-togethers all year long! This particular trip will be my daughter’s first time up north. We have been going since I was younger than she is. My granny has a house on Big Stone Lake. Up there, we also feel much, much closer to my grandpa, who died six years ago. It will be a great trip! I cannot wait!”
