Having ‘the conversation’: How to talk to elderly parents about accepting help

When your elderly relatives start having trouble managing their basic daily routines, it’s impossible to avoid a conversation about how to provide the help they need. These conversations can be difficult, because parents in particular are often reluctant to accept such changes, however necessary. To learn more about how to have “the talk” with your older parents or other family members, check out the October 2013 Focus of the Month at http://www.aurora.org/eap. Click the link, select “Employee” at the left side of the page, and enter the user name northshorebank. Then click on “Current issue” under “Focus of the Month.”

You can also call your Aurora Employee Assistance Program at 800-236-3231 to speak directly with an EAP professional or an elder-care work/life specialist.
