This month, take steps to prevent breast cancer

As you may know, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to statistics compiled this year by the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the U.S.

This link shares four steps women can take to protect themselves against breast cancer:

  1. Know your risk. Find out if anyone in your family has had breast cancer. Talk to your doctor.
  2. Get screened. Ask your doctor what screening tests are right for you. Talk about how often you should have a mammogram and clinical breast exam. Do regular breast self-exams.
  3. Know what’s normal for you. See your doctor if you have any breast changes such as lumps or changes in size, shape or color.
  4. Make healthy choices. Keep a healthy weight, exercise and limit alcohol are just a few ways to lower your risk.

Share these steps with the women in your life. We’ll keep the news about breast cancer coming!
