Around the Bank

• This is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re asking branches and departments to pick a day for all employees to wear pink, snap a picture, and send it our way. If you’re at Corporate, Loan Servicing will be doing a Pink Day — with a bake sale and raffle — on Monday. Details here.
• Westgate’s community corn roast made for some warm, yummy fun on a cool autumn day.
• Still looking for your favorite Halloween photos. Get a treat for submitting them, and the chance to win a $25 gift card.

MLO Stephanie Glowinski-Moeller earned some words of praise from some grateful customers last week. The clients wrote:

We would like to thank you for all of your outstanding efforts related to refinancing of our loan. You did it with the greatest efficiency, high service, and courtesy. North Shore Bank is fortunate to have an associate that is so highly dedicated in serving its customers.

We enjoyed doing business with you and will recommend you and North Shore Bank to our friends. It was a genuine pleasure meeting you.

Nice work, Stephanie!

Announcements

• Our worn flag collection continues through Oct 25. The public can drop off tattered American flags at any of our branches, and we will ensure the flags are properly retired in Veterans Day ceremonies next month.
Checking promotion: Through Oct 25, new customers who open a personal checking account with us can get $100 cash. More details here.

Service Anniversaries

You can congratulate your coworkers on their anniversaries in the comments.

Connie Hagen, assistant vice president, mortgage collections, marks 25 years with North Shore Bank this week. Congratulations, Connie!

“Wow, 10 years already!” says Deposit Operations Specialist Janet Russell. “Since I started at NSB, I have enjoyed many learning and growth opportunities. The knowledge I gained working on the branch side for five years has helped me excel in my job here at Corporate. Understanding both sides helps me relate to the branches more effectively. The people at NSB are not only my coworkers, but also my family.”

And REO Asset Management Specialist Theresa Ludwig says: “I can’t believe it’s been 5 years with the bank, four of them at Corporate! My favorite parts of the job would have to be the people I’ve worked with and the things I’ve learned. There’s a camaraderie and family dynamic here that makes work fun and interesting. I’m continuing to learn the ins and outs of real estate and really enjoy selling the bank-owned assets. Every day is different, and the fast-paced nature of my job keeps me on my toes. I’m excited for what comes next.”

North Shore Shape Up

Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It should never happen to anybody. But it does — and when it does, there is help. Domestic violence and emotional abuse are behaviors used by one person in a relationship to control the other. Partners may be married or not married; heterosexual, gay, or lesbian; living together, separated, or dating. Examples of domestic violence include:

  • Name-calling or putdowns
  • Keeping a partner from contacting their family or friends
  • Withholding money
  • Stopping a partner from getting or keeping a job
  • Actual or threatened physical harm
  • Sexual assault
  • Stalking
  • Intimidation

Both men and women can be victims of abuse. Children in homes where there is domestic violence are more likely to be abused or neglected. Most children in these homes know about the violence, and even if children aren not physically harmed, they may have emotional and behavior problems. If you are being abused, remember: You are not alone. It is not your fault. Help is available. If you feel you are or might be in danger, call 911, your local hotline, or the U.S. National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 and TTY 1-800-787-3224. Your Aurora EAP is also here to help. Call them at 800-236-3231. Counselors are available 24/7.

• And our “Walktober” challenge is still going on. Walk for 30 minutes outside (or complete 30 minutes of some other form of exercise), mark it on your activity sheet, and send the completed sheet to Molly Schissler at mschissler@northshorebank.com by Nov 4 for a chance to win a Sports Authority gift card.
