Customers, coworkers will miss Janice Smits

One fellow employee calls her “the IRA and investment queen of Sturgeon Bay.” After 26 years with various job titles at multiple locations at North Shore Bank, Universal Banker Janice Smits is hanging up her hat next week. The many customers who know her by name will miss her warmth and expertise, as will her colleagues. Read more about Janice’s storied career and wish her well in the comments!

Around the Bank

Born to win: Training Specialist Jan Born represented the bank when the Green Bay Gamblers played — and beat — the Lincoln Stars at the team’s American Heart Association Night on Mar 28. Looking good, Jan!

South Region SOARs: In February, the South Region invited our internal customers to rate their satisfaction with the level of service they’ve received from South Region branches. DM Brian Bozek has the scoop.

Department of the Week

Consumer Loan Servicing: Our Department of the Week is Consumer Loan Servicing, run by Joe Fretschel. The last few months have been particularly eventful for the department, especially after a team member suffered — and survived! — an unexpected heart attack in the fall. Consumer Loan Servicing already had plenty to keep it busy, with a finger on nearly every loan or lease the bank touches — as well as hamster funerals to prepare for! Read on to find out more about that.

Kudos

Here are a few of the many great comments we’ve heard from North Shore Bank customers. Thanks for making this the Bank of You!

“I have been a member of NSB for over 40 years, and at all levels, the representatives have helped solve my problems and taken care of my banking needs.”

“My bankers recommended I sign up for the mobile app. I did, and it’s awesome!”

“My outstanding personal banker helped me through after my husband died. Meant very much to me.”

“The personnel at the Muskego branch are always friendly. I appreciate that they know their customers by name and take care of us. This is the reason I stayed with North Shore when they took over from Maritime.”

Get your bike ready for summer: On Apr 9, SVP Dean Trout led a Lunch-N-Learn at Corporate on the subject of proper bike maintenance, including what gear a seasoned biker should always have on hand, and why. Dean also put together a great checklist to go along with his presentation, along with a list of proper bicycling safety procedures, a guide to relevant laws, and tips on how to get in shape for more serious riding. You can download that information here as a PDF.

And reminder: The bank is fielding a team for the UPAF Ride for the Arts on May 31 — we’ve got nearly 50 riders right now. For more information on how you can participate in the ride, volunteer to help, or support the riders, download the flyer.

Recipe of the Week

Othello cake: “This is a family recipe for a sponge cake with a special chocolate custard frosting,” writes Payroll Manager Cindy Lohrey. “I have no idea why it is called ‘Othello.’” Take a look!
