Shredding Days collect more than 40 tons of materials
The totals are in! And our 2015 Free Community Shredding Day events took in more than 80,901 pounds of materials to be safely and securely destroyed and disposed of. That comes out to 40.45 tons. Kate Knox has more here.
Around the Bank
Sussex Rock-A-Thon: Sussex Branch Manager Candy Walecki (right) brought along Personal Banker Samantha Persik, the branch’s newest addition, on May 12 to rock the day away, in celebration of Older Americans Month and the community’s senior citizens. “We had lunch there and got a bunch of cookies, brownies, and Rice Krispie treats for the rest of the staff,” Candy says. “Gotta help out the seniors and make some purchases!”
Prize Patrol: Mequon scored highest this past quarter in customer service, winning the branch a visit from DM Cristen Baumann, Investment Consultant Jeff Eichel, and Business Banking VP Steve Walber — a.k.a., the Prize Patrol. The staff got a $25 credit they can spend on whatever team activity they’d like, such as lunch or something else fun.
Branch of the Week
Once a “Shantytown,” Allouez is now a little more comfortable, and our branch there has evolved to match the community. The team there stays busy, too, doing everything from appearing on live TV to testing customers’ knowledge to losing — and, thankfully, finding! — other people’s dogs! Branch Manager Mickey Adams has the full report.
Service Anniversaries
You can congratulate your coworkers on their anniversaries in the comments.
“I’m truly grateful to have been with North Shore Bank for the past 10 years,” says Indirect Loan Funding Rep Sarah Gantner. “Many of the people I’ve worked with have become part of my extended family. It’s a great feeling, coming to work and being surrounded by your friends.”
“Time has gone by as if in the blink of an eye! Where have these 10 years gone?” wonders Miguel Pesqueira, VP, Community Lending. “The best part of my job is helping people realize their dreams of homeownership. Every deal is as different as the people themselves, but educating them and helping them every step of the way is rewarding.”
Celebrations
Earlier this week, Commercial Loan Servicing Manager Cheryl Lang (above) and husband Kyle welcomed new baby Olia. “Cheryl was actually attending her baby shower and was only there for 20 minutes when her water broke,” Corporate Receptionist Nancy Hanson reports. “Baby Olia decided to come about a month early!”
And last week, Ashwaubenon and Pulaski Branch Manager Mistine Thomson got her first grandchild, Colt. “I just can’t stop smiling!” she says. “There’s no way to have a bad day now — all I have to do is look at his little face and everything is right in the world!”

Fructose versus glucose: A lot of recent research has focused on how much better natural sweeteners — like organic honey or maple syrup — are for you than processed sugars. It’s worth noting that fructose — the sugar found in fruit, honey, and other natural sources — is less effective than glucose at curbing your appetite, because fructose doesn’t stimulate the release of insulin. That said, there are still a lot of reasons to stick with fructose, especially when it comes in the form of fresh fruit, which contains fiber and other nutrients. Eating fruit will also make you feel more full than drinking juice or soda will.
