Well-liked Mike Anderson eyes part-time work and lots of golf in retirement

Mike and Barb Anderson were thrilled with the abundant sunshine and blossoms they found on their trip to San Diego, which Mike earned for highest loan production in 2011.

Of Mike Anderson’s 37 years in banking, North Shore Bank has benefited from his talents and expertise for the last eight. He held positions in retail banking, he managed a credit department and loan operations department, and he was a commercial lender elsewhere before taking on business banking responsibilities at our Ashwaubenon office in 2007.

As our VP, Business Banking, serving northeast Wisconsin, Mike has helped small to medium-size enterprises in the Green Bay area, the Fox Cities, and Door County. He will retire June 19.

“I’ve helped clients with loans for building expansions and equipment purchases, I’ve helped businesses establish a line of credit, and I’ve assisted with checking accounts and cash management services,” he says.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that many of his clients consider him their best friend because of the key role he has played in their success. He expects to continue those friendships, many of them on the golf course or over coffee or lunch.

‘If you can’t like Mike, you can’t like anyone.’
Mike has prided himself on his ability to establish rapport and trust with coworkers and customers. His highest compliment came from a stern boss several years ago. The senior executive peered over his glasses at Mike and said, “If you can’t like Mike Anderson, you can’t like anyone.”

“I haven’t known Mike for a long time,” says Grant Schilling, VP, Northeast, and commercial lending manager, “but I am impressed by how well respected he is in the business community. When I mention that I work for North Shore Bank, the first thing people say is what a nice man Mike Anderson is.“

Mike has the highest regard for his NSB coworkers and their professionalism. He developed an especially close friendship with Rob Pecard, a former Ashwaubenon mortgage loan officer who died of cancer in 2010. “To this day, as a sign of respect, those who knew and worked with Rob will not park in what was considered his parking space,” Mike says.

He reflects with appreciation on the two trips he and his wife, Barb, took — one to Hawaii and one to San Diego — when he earned the bank’s North Star Award for highest loan production in 2008 and again in 2011. “We have vivid and lasting memories of those wonderful adventures,” he says.

Leaving office, but not leaving finance
Mike might be vacating his bank office, but he’s not totally leaving the financial field. He’ll spend time helping an established and well-respected business with the money management side of its growing operation. The fewer and flexible part-time hours will allow him to spend more days on the links. “I love golf,” Mike admits.

While Barb stays busy for another year as a kindergarten teacher, Mike will stay nimble with numbers by continuing with what he calls a labor of love: serving as treasurer of their church, a commitment now in its 27th year. The Andersons have a son, Eric, a website and graphic designer in Green Bay.

Colleague offers kudos
“North Shore Bank is so appreciative of all the time, effort, and quality service Mike has provided to customers, employees, and the community,” says Margaret Capper, VP and commercial banking manager.

“He will be greatly missed by many, but knowing Mike, he will be in the thick of community activity. I just hope he takes some time for himself.

“Thank you, Mike, for being such a great example to others who have had the honor of working with you. Enjoy your retirement!”

I have had the pleasure of knowing Mike for the 3 1/2 years I have been with North Shore Bank. Mike is an excellent banker, taking very good care of his customers and, as a result, the bank’s interests. I don’t think it could be said any better than his former manager who said, “If you can’t like Mike Anderson, you can’t like anyone.” How true! Mike, enjoy you new position and part-time retirement! You will be missed. Fore!
