If you’re eating a vegan diet — or considering it — you need to pay extra attention to ensure you get all of the nutrients you need. According to recent research, it’s not unusual for vegans to be low on iron, calcium, vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin B-12. Make sure you’re eating lots of whole foods — not just processed food made without animal products — and aim to consume lots of nutritious fats like those found in avocados, nuts, olive oil, and dark chocolate, as well as greens, walnuts, and ground flaxseed for omega-3s.
