Help North Shore Bank battle heart disease
Team North Shore hopes to raise $7,000 in this year’s American Heart Association Heart Walk on Sunday, September 18. The annual event spreads awareness about how to combat heart disease and raises funds for research to improve heart health.

Kading, wife play it cool while on Vegas vacation
As we reported in June, Northland Personal Banker Kelly Kading won a Las Vegas vacation for two in our recent SOAR story contest. We checked in with Kelly to see how the trip — which he and his wife took July 8-10 — went.
“We had a lot of fun,” he said. “It was a great group of people to travel with. Las Vegas is a very interesting place — quite different from the good old Midwest I am used to. We are very thankful for the opportunity, as it was a good time for us to get away. We took about 100 pictures up and down the Strip, but only a few selfies with both of us. We need a selfie stick! We ended up ahead $5.17 playing penny slots, and I did put $10 on the Cubs and Packers at the Wynn to win it all. ☺️ ” •••
Allouez, Green Bay East compete to build skills
Allouez and Green Bay East employees played a version of Jeopardy! based on North Shore Bank checking account information for a skill builder exercise on July 28. “There was great participation from both teams, and it turned out to be a close game,” reports Allouez Teller Olivia Vechart (who happened to be celebrating her 21st birthday that day as well — happy birthday, Olivia!). •••
New Shorewood, Jackson Park branches announced
Last month, North Shore Bank announced plans to build a new, state-of-the-art branch in Shorewood, as well as plans for a new, full-service branch near Jackson Park.
The new Shorewood office will consolidate our current Shorewood and East branches, both of which are less than a half mile from the new site on Oakland Avenue. It will feature an open-concept lobby and cutting-edge technology like a drive-up remote teller machine, a self-serve coin counter, interactive kiosk technology, and videoconferencing capabilities with product experts. Its modern design will fit the Village of Shorewood’s central business district master plan. Plans are to break ground in 2017.
The new building near Jackson Park will replace the current office there and open to the public next spring. The branch will feature a fully updated design concept, new technology, and more convenient options for customers, including a drive-thru and a financial literacy area for children and families. During construction, customers can use a temporary banking facility adjacent to the current office location. •••
North Shore Shape Up: Fruit linked to cancer prevention
A 20-year study found that women who ate an abundance of whole fruit during adolescence had about a 25 percent lower risk of breast cancer in middle age. While it’s not clear that the fruit itself did the trick — it could just be that women who eat lots of fruit tend to practice other healthy, cancer-mitigating behaviors — the findings do “fit with other research suggesting that a wide variety of plant foods, including veggies, fruits, and whole grains, protect against breast cancer,” according to Cleveland Clinic Wellness.
In less merry news: Another study determined that women who consumed two extra alcoholic drinks per day for five years showed a 30 percent higher risk for breast cancer. And that’s also in keeping with previous research linking drinking to cancer. So enjoy your libations in moderation! •••
Upcoming Events
Starting tonight, North Shore Bank presents “August Nights” at Jackson Park, a free concert series throughout the month on Thursday evenings. The first show features Cache & The Pueblo Latino Orchestra, “an exuberant ensemble offering exciting Caribbean and Latin music.” More upcoming events here.
