About 300 North Shore Bank personnel headed for Miller Park on September 25 to watch some Major League Baseball for an employee appreciation outing. The Milwaukee Brewers, unfortunately, lost to the Cincinnati Reds, but everyone still enjoyed excellent weather and tailgating catered by Bunzel’s Old-Fashioned Meat Market.

Human Resources Rep Cheryl Fregoso gets credit for organizing the event. Thanks, Cheryl! Here are some photos from the day.

Honor Flight fundraiser brings in almost $1,000

dsc07940

Our fundraiser last Friday raised $963 for honor flights to send American veterans to visit war memorials in Washington, D.C. It costs about $500 to send one vet on an honor flight, so your generosity has made a difference for two of our former soldiers. Read more about it here.

The collection will run October 3 through October 23. We will also donate $1 per flag — up to $1,500 total — to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight and Old Glory Honor Flight. These organizations fly local World War II, Korean War, and terminally ill veterans from other conflicts to Washington, D.C., to visit their respective memorials. We will also accept donations from the public. Contact Kate Knox at kknox@northshorebank.com or 262-797-3323 if you have questions. •••

New Hires for October 6
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.

davis-eustasiaStasia Davis was born and raised in Milwaukee. She previously worked for Wisconsin Electric and is a full-time student at MATC-West Allis Campus, majoring in business. She is on track to complete her associate’s degree in business administration in May. She says: “I will forever assume that I’m tall. I have an itty-bitty problem with being short, so when people ask my height, I insinuate that I’m six-foot. Even though I’m five-foot!”

dolanEvelyn Dolan is from Morristown, Tennessee. “That is in east Tennessee, near Knoxville,” she says. “I have lived in a lot of places in the South, but this is my first time in the North!” She was previously the office manager at a small grocery store in Morristown. And, she says, she once lived for six months in the Netherlands.

wagner-pattyResidential Loan Specialist Patty Wagner is originally from Milwaukee, but lived in Salt Lake City for many years after completing her degree there. She returned to Milwaukee 20 years ago and previously worked as a business loan coordinator for Associated Bank. Patty is an animal lover and does volunteer work with Milwaukee Domestic Animal Control. “I have cats, dogs, fish, and a ball python,” she says.

watts-amandaAmanda Watts is from Waukesha and previously worked as a homemaker for the elderly for a company called Optage. She says she asked her family to help come up with a fun fact about her, and they said: “You make up your own language at home with us, you’re clumsy, and you love your dog. So feel free to pick whichever one you want.” :-D Thanks, Amanda! •••

North Shore Shape Up: Check your proteins
Proteins are getting a lot of attention lately, as important sources of energy that are easier to burn off than many carbohydrates or fats. But take note — according to Cleveland Clinic Wellness, it definitely matters which kind of protein you eat:

Researchers found that eating a lot of beef and pork, both unprocessed and processed, was linked with a higher risk of early death in people who already had at least one health risk factor, like obesity, physical inactivity, or a history of smoking. Those with identical risk factors, but who ate a diet high in plant protein, had a lower risk of death. So we’re big fans of plant sources of protein, like beans and lentils! Along with protein, they’re chock-full of fiber and an array of phytonutrients, and they’re also versatile vehicles for flavor…

Meat is neat, but broadly speaking, the more plants you put in your diet, the better. •••

Upcoming Events
The Kenosha Crop Hunger Walk will take place October 9. The walk supports the ministry of Church World Service — 75 percent of funds donated will go to help world hunger, and 25 percent will go to local food pantries and be divided between the Shalom Center, First Step Services, and the Salvation Army. More upcoming events here.
