North Shore Bank took part in the fifth annual Mequon Winter Frolic at the Mequon Nature Preserve on February 4, sponsoring sleigh rides and operating a table at the event. About 1,500 people showed up, Mequon branch manager Farrah Mason reported. The event is a fundraiser for the nature preserve.

Other activities at the frolic included ice fishing, a lumberjack competition, tractor rides, a petting zoo, a winter marketplace, and a meet-and-greet with characters from Frozen.

Brookfield Square assistant branch manager Beth Wianecki and video teller supervisor Ashley Endres are due to have babies within a week of each other — so their supervisor, branch manager Margie Brusa, organized a joint baby shower for them on February 14.

Beth is having a girl near the end of March, and Ashley will be having a boy in early April, so pink and blue cupcakes were served at the party. Universal banker Tiffany Pennington of Green Bay West also made cookies and sent them down to Brookfield Square.

“It was very nice — we were both surprised they planned a shower for us!” Ashley said. Video teller Merry Justin coordinated a “guess the date and weight” game, too. “We won’t know who won until the big arrivals!” Margie said. •••

North Shore Shape Up: How to stop emotional eating
Struggling to lose weight? (Many of us are.) Cleveland Clinic Wellness has some important information for you:

A new survey of more than 1,000 Americans suggests that no matter how much we think we know about losing weight — for example, that we need to eat less and move more — the majority of people don’t realize just how important psychological well-being is to losing weight and keeping it off. Researchers say we need to pay closer attention to why we’re eating, since the strongest food cravings, and the ones that can sabotage our efforts, often come when we’re weakest emotionally. If you think emotional eating may be affecting your efforts to get to your ideal weight, try keeping a food journal. In addition to writing down what and when you eat, record how you’re feeling, too. Are you actually hungry? Or are you bored or stressed? Once you’re able to identify patterns in your eating, you’ll have a better chance of establishing healthier ones.

Real Simple offers guidance on how to keep a food journal, and Women’s Health shares four mistakes people often make when trying to keep one. •••
