Halloween fun scares up cash, books for kids

Retirement plans representative Vikki Dolezal and her husband, building engineer Jeff, did their fourth annual outing dressed as Lily and Herman Munster. “Jeff tricks out the T bucket, and we hand out treats,” she says.

Last Friday, the Corporate Community Outreach Committee organized a trick-or-treating activity at Corporate for employees’ children and other young relatives. The spooky good time helped wrap up the CCOC’s Book for Kids drive to benefit the Ronald McDonald House, which raised $301 in cash and brought in 155 books. Great work, everybody!

Along with photos from the event, we’ve got pictures of North Shore Bank staffers and their families dressed up to enjoy the most friiiiiiiightening time of the year. Check it out — if you dare.

SOAR survey shows progress in North Region
At the beginning of September, the North Region invited internal customers to rate their satisfaction with the level of service they received from the North Region branches. Over 270 total responses were received. The survey asked a series of questions relating to the bank’s SOAR service standards and overall satisfaction rating. Responses showed great progress — Kerri Collins has more information.

Kudos for November 2
A big customer sent in this compliment for Brookfield Capitol area branch manager Maria Baumer:

Just wanted to let you know what a complete joy it is to work with Maria. She is extremely knowledgeable and always willing to help with anything I ask her to. For example, when I stopped by the Brookfield Capitol branch today to make a big deposit, she was more than willing to help me with that deposit, expediting the wire transfers I’ll need to make this Wednesday, and also helped me out on my home equity loan insurance.

VP and commercial banking manager Margaret Capper adds: “Maria, you do an outstanding job, and I appreciate all you do for North Shore Bank for all internal and external clients.” •••

New Hires for November 2
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.

Traveling teller Sonya Ramirez is from Round Lake, Illinois, but lived in Texas for 16 years before moving to Wisconsin recently. Her last job was at Zebra, where she was a repair tech who worked on printers. “I love to dance and will dance to just about anything,” Sonya says. “I was a dance teacher as well in my past.”

Senior mortgage servicing specialist Evelyn Vasquez was born in Puerto Rico and previously worked as a loan processor for Associated Bank. “I once went skydiving with my 14-year-old daughter,” she says. “I certainly will not do that again. She encouraged me, and it was supposed to be a fun experience — but it was terrifying! Not fun for me at all.” •••

Osmundsen has new grandson

Loan funding rep team leader Maribeth Osmundsen and her family welcomed a new grandson in July. Xander joins three other grandkids: 13-year-old Collin, 10-year-old Riley, and 4-year-old Jace. Congratulations, Maribeth! •••

North Shore Shape Up: Dementia and driving safety
When someone is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia, it’s not safe for them to have access to a working vehicle. A car accident could injure or kill them or another person. But taking away someone’s keys often also feels like an attack on their autonomy.

Harvard Health has some advice about how to handle this tricky situation, if you need to intervene with a parent or another family member who should no longer be on the road:

Ideally, a tactful and respectful approach will preserve the person’s self-esteem while getting them off the road. Some people may agree to stop driving for other reasons — for instance, the car needs repair or the license or registration has expired. You can also opt for a road test with a driver’s rehabilitation specialist, who can offer an independent assessment of safety. People with Alzheimer’s disease sometimes take seriously a written prescription from a physician that says, “Do not drive.”

The post adds: “If all else fails, you may need to seek advice from a lawyer or an official with the Department of Public Safety in your state.” Another good resource is North Shore Bank’s new Caregiver Support program. •••
