Employees raise $1,100+ after fire destroys cleaner’s home

Mailroom assistant Colleen Moore (left) and Corporate receptionist Nancy Hanson present Stella with a check for the money collected to help her and her family.

Corporate employees took up a collection and raised over $1,100 to help Stella Olson, who worked at the office as a cleaning person for many years, and whose Brookfield home was recently destroyed in a house fire.

“Stella hadn’t cleaned at the bank for about five years, but those of us who knew her were shocked and saddened to hear about the fire, and we wanted to help,” said Kate Knox, AVP of marketing communications.

Stella visited Corporate on Monday to pick up the money collected for her. “She was her positive self, reassuringly saying that they would be alright,” Kate said. “She graciously accepted the collected donations and was grateful and humbled by the support. Everyone was thrilled to see her, and she was quick to dish out hugs.”

At 80 years old, Stella still works at St. Camillus retirement home.

“She’s a genuinely good person who took it upon herself to look after everyone like family,” Kate said. “She would go out of her way to watch you walk to your car after hours, ask how your kids and grandkids were doing, and pass along a big smile when she saw you.”

If you want to help Stella and her family, a GoFundMe drive has been set up. If you know someone who may want to help Stella, please share this link with them.
