My favorite present — and I’ve had many great ones — was a trip to Mexico for a grand New Year’s celebration when I was much younger. My parents surprised my brother and me with the trip. We went to Cancún with some friends of the family and had a terrific time snorkeling, scaling old ruins, and RTVing in the jungle! This trip gave me my love for world travel!

My favorite Christmas present was a Josephina American Girl doll, I must have been about 10 years old that year. My mom took me to the American Girl store in Chicago a few weeks before Christmas, and I remember telling her how badly I wanted a doll. Josephina was the newest doll that year, so my mom agreed that I could get one of her books. As far as the doll went, she just kept telling me that Santa would need to decide if I’d been good enough. Little did she know, I’d already found out the truth about Santa — but “If you don’t believe, you don’t receive.”

I couldn’t even tell you if I got any gifts other than that doll that year!

One of my favorite holiday gifts was when my brother and I got a Nintendo 64 for Christmas with Donkey Kong 64, Super Mario 64, an extra controller, and a few other games. We played all Christmas Day and will still play it from time to time even now, 22 years later — especially on Christmas.

My favorite holiday present would have to be the gift my boyfriend got me last year: my baby Gizmo! He’s a Shih Tzu and turned 1 year, 2 months old on the 9th!
