Senior lender Mike Cornell a “customer-focused banker”
VP commercial banking and senior lender Mike Cornell joined North Shore Bank in April, bringing more than 30 years of experience in the industry with him. Mike describes himself as a “customer-focused banker” who was attracted to the job because of our own long-standing commitment to customer service.

“North Shore Bank caught my attention because it’s large enough to work with decent-size businesses, but not too big — you have time to build real relationships,” he says. Mike talked to Shorelines this week about his background and what to expect as he settles in here. See what he says!

Shorewood bankers see kids’ work at learning showcase

Shorewood branch manager Shannon Weber and personal banker Kenya Owens were invited to Shorewood School District’s Authentic Learning Showcase on May 1. The branch donates yearly to the Shorewood SEED Foundation, which provides funding for educational opportunities in the district, and this was a chance to see some of the results of those donations.

The Authentic Learning Showcase featured students who were doing research and engaging with the community to address real-world issues.

“It was really amazing to see and to hear some of what these children are learning today,” Shannon said. “The biggest shocker for me was how truly vital technology is now — children are preparing for jobs that don’t even exist yet. It was great to see the confidence these children had from their learning and experiences throughout their year.” •••

North Shore Shape Up: Stretch daily, prevent injury
When we talk about the need for flexibility, most of the time we mean not being too rigid in your thinking or ways of doing things. But literal bodily flexibility is very important too, especially as we age, as Harvard Health explains:

Lack of flexibility can increase your risk of strains and other injuries, and add difficulty to everyday movements like reaching a high shelf, twisting to look behind you in the car, raising your arms overhead, walking up stairs, or squatting or bending to pick up something. …

Stretching is the best way to improve flexibility. “You should stretch every day,” says Dr. Lauren Elson. “It should be like brushing your teeth. Stretch after a workout or walk, after a hot shower, or as a break from a long period of sitting. You can do a complete routine in about five to 10 minutes.”

Harvard Health recommends four stretches that will target key areas and can be performed daily. “The good news,” the post notes, “is that it’s never too late to slow or even reverse the loss of flexibility.” •••
