#MaskUpMKE deadline extended to June 30

CBS 58 reporter Michael Schlesinger covered the mask-making effort on Wednesday.

#MaskUpMKE is still asking for volunteers to make COVID-19 masks and has extended the project’s deadline to June 30. North Shore Bank offices in southeast Wisconsin are serving as distribution and return points for mask-making kits, which each provide enough material for 700 masks.

CBS 58 covered the project this week, and the Urban Milwaukee news site shared our press release as well. Please let friends and family know about #MaskUpMKE and how they can help — there is no sewing required! For more information, check Ask Seymour. •••

Facilities team delays holiday to deliver desk shields

Colleen Moore and Jeff Dolezal unboxed and separated desk shields, to get them ready for the branches.

Our Facilities team worked late Friday, May 22, putting off the long Memorial Day holiday weekend for a few more hours to ensure branches would receive desk shields necessary for full lobby reopenings the following Tuesday. A shipping delay necessitated the extra work. On Saturday morning, volunteers distributed the shields across our Metro and South regions.

“The commitment they showed toward the safety of our customers and fellow employees was truly above and beyond,” AVP facilities and services manager Tim Dotson said. “They really reflect being the Bank of You.” •••

McHenry brings donation, lunch to food pantry

Boyfriend Mike and Dawn, in ISB shirts, along with FISH directory Paula and a volunteer, getting lunch ready for the pantry.

Traveling universal banker Dawn Conley visited the FISH of McHenry Food Pantry late last month as part of our Bank on Kindness initiative, dropping off a donation check and lunch for 25 workers and volunteers.

“This was a little bit of a challenge because of the COVID-19 issues, but all participants were willing and able!” Dawn said.

She added that watching the pantry in operation was really something.

“It was amazing — they were so organized,” Dawn said. “It’s basically a small store to assist families with canned, boxed, and dry foods, soaps, toiletries, paper products, and other necessities they may need while in a financial crisis. It was really heartwarming to see all the volunteers — especially since some of them are in a high-risk group for COVID themselves, but still volunteer their time to assist others.” •••

Bank chooses nonprofits to receive COVID aid

AACCW representative Tanya with senior vice president of consumer lending Mike Kellman.

This week, the bank announced that four Milwaukee-area nonprofits will each receive $5,000 to help them continue serving their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The nonprofits are Legacy Redevelopment Corporation, African American Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin, United Community Center, and La Casa de Esperanza.

The money comes from a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. Legacy Redevelopment and the AACCW will use the funds to help small-business customers, and the community center and La Casa de Esperanza will apply their funds to operational costs so that they can continue to help their communities.

The bank plans to sponsor future FHLB grants, as well. •••

“Dan Dan the Banking Man” takes reins at Germantown
New Germantown branch manager Dan Emmons recently relocated to Wisconsin from Seattle. “Dan Dan the Banking Man” worked at Key Bank, starting out as a part-time teller and ultimately working his way up to branch manager. He says he’s an avid Indy and Nascar racing fan who loves spending time at the track getting autographs from his favorite drivers. He talked to Shorelines about joining North Shore Bank.

How did you get into banking, and what has kept you in the industry?
A mentor of mine suggested I get into banking and that I would be good at it. Since I had no previous banking experience, I started out as a teller and worked my way up. I really enjoyed the financial industry and loved learning as much as I could. And management really liked my can-do attitude and work ethic, so I was asked to fill many different roles.

Do you really go by “Dan Dan the Banking Man”?
I really do! I found that Dan was a pretty plain name and wanted my customers to remember me. Now everyone I meet never forgets my name.

And what’s your favorite encounter with a race car driver?
When I was 12, I waited for Indy driver Al Unser Jr. to come out of his RV trailer for his autograph. He came out and talked to me for a bit, and I was thrilled to have met him. •••

Weber officially adopts daughter

Izzy, Shannon, and Jeff, officially a family.

Shorewood branch manager Shannon Weber and husband Jeff officially adopted daughter Isabella this week. “We could not be happier and are so excited to start our next journey as a complete family,” Shannon said. The adoption process has taken almost three years.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, courts are finalizing adoptions over Zoom, she said. “We were very happy with this not just because we could finish the process, but also because it was more comfortable for Izzy to do it in our home. For her, it was just one big computer party that all of our family showed up to! It was great.” Congratulations, Shannon! •••
