The Farmers’ Almanac predicts winter will be a “polar coaster” this year, so here are a few helpful hints to get ready.
Drive safely Accelerate and decelerate slowly, and take care to increase the distance between you and the car in front of you.
Prepare your car Check your tires and replace them with all-weather or snow tires if necessary. Make an emergency kit to keep in the car — it should include a first-aid kit, flashlight and batteries, extra hats and gloves or mittens, and an extra blanket or two.
Prepare your home Get the furnace checked out, and make an appointment to clean out chimneys and fireplaces.
Prepare for outdoor activities Wear layers of light and warm clothing, a wind-resistant coat, waterproof shoes, hat, gloves, and a scarf. Work slowly when doing outdoor tasks like shoveling or removing snow from your car.
A little bit of prevention goes a long way toward a safe “polar coaster” ride! So strap in and everybody stay safe this season!
