MILESTONES

Colleen Moore has been brightening days for 20 years
“I didn’t know how long I would be here,” says Colleen Moore, remembering her first days at North Shore Bank in 2002 as mailroom assistant. “I was just happy to be in the working field after raising a family for eight years.”

Twenty years later, her title is mail services supervisor, and Colleen is an invaluable member of our team.

“Every morning, Colleen has a smile and a good word for everyone she sees,” CIO Dean Trout says. “It makes the bank a little brighter. I also see her volunteering at various events, making the rest of the world a little happier, too.” Read more about how glad Colleen’s colleagues are that she’s here.

IN OUR COMMUNITIES

Shorewood Feast delivers a day of fun and food again

Audrey and Micki at our “Be Kind” wall.

The third annual North Shore Bank Shorewood Feast took place last Saturday, September 10. Each year, the daylong street festival wraps up with a family-style harvest dinner at a long table in the middle of the village’s Oakland Avenue.

“It was a perfect day, with great weather, and so many people came out to enjoy it,” Shorewood area branch manager AVP Shannon Weber said. Throughout the day, the bank offered places for festival-goers to sit and relax, as well as the chance to decorate kindness rocks and leave a message on our “Be Kind” wall.

“I loved how inviting it was for people to come right into the booth — and they did just that,” Shannon said. “Kids and adults told us how excited they were to put their rocks in places for others to find. I love that! It also gave us opportunities to talk to so many people in our community. And some of those conversations gave us a chance to explain how we could help them with their goals.”

Along with Shannon and reps from our partner NEWaukee, universal banker Micki Usama, teller Audrey Elliott, and senior financial accountant/analyst Kristin Monday helped out at the feast. Business relationship manager Cheri Cicona was also there to help North Shore Bank business customers with their credit card processing.

Kids and adults decorated kindness rocks at our table.

Put together by local chefs, the six-course meal that ended the festivities was delicious, Shannon said, but just one part of a wonderful day. “I really enjoyed having the opportunity to speak with so many different people from our community. I love how this event offers residents of Shorewood a day of fun, music, and really great food.” •••

ONE MINUTE OF MINDFULNESS

It’s easier when we get out of our own way

We make the mistake of trying to do too much with our own intellect. We can accomplish much more if we get out of our own way and let the work flow. The ego masquerades as a friend, but it’s a limitation; the calm mind does so much more with ease than the mind concerned with rewards and praise.

Try this meditation for one minute today, or longer if you wish:

I WILL ALLOW myself to let things occur in their own course. I will calmly let my intuition guide me, rather than forcing it.

Hanuman leaped forward without a moment’s hesitation…
He was truly a wondrous sight…
His eyes blazed bright as lightning, like twin fires
upon a mountain slope, like the sun and moon frozen in place…
The wind under his arms rumbled and he shot forward like a blazing comet.
The Ramayana

How did this meditation go for you? Share your experience with your fellow North Shore Bank employees at shorelines@northshorebank.com and you’ll be entered to win a copy of Mindfulness in Plain English, by Bhante Gunaratana.

Sussex assistant branch manager Jacob Verhaalen was born and raised in southeastern Wisconsin and lives in Beechwood now. He previously worked as an assistant branch manager at a financial institution, but the role was more focused on indirect lending. “I love to travel,” he says. “I have been to 43 states and hopefully I can get to the remaining ones soon — I’m just missing Hawaii, Alaska, California, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada. I’m looking most forward to going to Alaska.” When he’s home, Jacob enjoys getting out on the lake and golfing. •••
