Over the past two weeks, Northland Assistant Branch Manager Tisha O’Dell presented information on saving to eight eighth-grade classes at Maplewood Middle School in Menasha. The presentations were part of the school’s Personal Development class.
Tisha said their teacher has been using Banzai’s Financial Education Program for the last two years, so this is the second year she’s been part of this unit for the school. North Shore Bank partners with Banzai to cover the curriculum costs and support financial literacy in select schools in our communities. Banzai is completely free to the schools that North Shore Bank sponsors. It helps reinforce the lessons and build community relationships when our financial experts can connect with schools to help students prepare financially for their future.
“We talked about the importance of saving, how to distinguish between wants and needs, and did some breakdowns of realistic savings plans for their goals,” Tisha said. “It was a lot of fun and the kids were very engaged, asking questions not only about saving but about credit scores, mobile banking, and careers in banking.”
Tisha is talking with the teacher about an opportunity to return for the digital citizenship unit in the spring to discuss digital wallets, P2P applications and fraud.
Great job, Tisha!
