Kiyah Thurmond
Teller Supervisor, Martin Luther King Drive
How long she’s been at North Shore Bank: Two years and three months.
How to pronounce her name: KAI-uh (not KEE-uh).
How she got into banking: I started off working at Firstar Bank as a check-sorting machine operator more than a decade ago. Later, I got laid off from a credit union and decided to stay home and have a baby — and then decided I didn’t want to stay home after all. I applied for the position here, and it took them forever to call me back! It was to the point I’d forgotten I’d even applied. I was glad when they called, though — I love banking.
Other jobs she’s held here: I started off as a teller, and I’ve also been a universal banker.
Does she like NSB better than her previous job? The other job doesn’t compare. There’s more of a sense of family here, which I really love. It’s just a more intimate setting — we’re closer to our customers.
Family: I have two daughters — Ae’zah (pronounced “Asia”) is 11, and Neomonni is 3. And we have a variety of pets at our home: two dogs, a rabbit, fish. My family calls our house “the zoo.” I love animals and I like to keep busy, though, so no complaints here.
What she’s into lately: Now that it’s the summertime, really just more outdoor things. I like to spend time with my kids and get them outside — to the beach or wherever.
Nice to meet you at training. Now I know a little bit more about you.
Kiayh – it’s great working with you. You are such a nice and positive person!
