From the Chairman: People define our past, present, and future

“Something happened recently that reinforced our family culture. As you know, in our branch offices, we provide customers the opportunity to complete surveys directed to the CEO. I read all of those surveys. A short time ago, I received written feedback that said, ‘I don’t know if you remember me, but I used to work at North Shore many years ago.’” Read the rest of Mr. McKenna’s message.

Spotlight: Gary Messing retires Oct 2

“I’ve had a great career,” the VP says. “I totally enjoy my work, the people I work with, and the bank’s ‘high-touch’ philosophy, which starts at the top of the organization. But I’ll be 70 in 2015, and it probably is time to let the next generation of leaders emerge. I think it’s good for those people and it’s good for the bank.”

Around the Bank

• Thousands of people — as well as their pets — came out for Wagfest on Sep 6, put on by the Elmbrook Humane Society in Brookfield. North Shore Bank was there.
• NSB fielded a team for the relay marathon at the Fox Cities Marathon on Sunday. Our five runners finished in just under four hours total. Check ’em out!
Oak Creek celebrated its 10th anniversary with food, fun, face painting, tae kwon do, and more.
• And Lending Quality Control Manager Jamie Sperk was saying, “Thankyouverymuch” after her colleagues surprised her with an Elvis-themed baby shower a few weeks ago.

Announcements

• Wauwatosa is hosting the kickoff for the Tosa All-City Read on Saturday, Sep 27. The All-City Read is an annual event in which adults and kids are encouraged to read the same book and then discuss it in different forums. This year’s book for adults is Orphan Train, by Christina Baker Kline. The list of titles for kids will be available at the branch’s kickoff event, along with activities and treats.
Book drive: Through Sep 30, the community is invited to drop off new or gently used children’s books at branches in Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Ozaukee counties, to benefit Next Door’s Books for Kids program.

Service Anniversaries

You can congratulate your coworkers on their anniversaries in the comments.

Special Transaction Processor Debra Jones — you probably know her better as Jonesy — marks 5 years with North Shore Bank this week. “Wow! I can’t believe five years has gone by,” she writes. “It has been a great learning experience and a thrill to work with a great team on the first floor here at Corporate. Even though I work part time, my job keeps me on my toes. It’s awesome!”

North Shore Shape Up

Cost-effective, convenient physicals for kids. Children often need to get physicals for the start of a new school year, when signing up to play a sport, or to go to camp. Aurora Health Care’s QuickCare Clinics offer high-quality sports and camp physicals for kids 9 years old or older. QuickCare Clinics are also great for medical issues that need fast attention but shouldn’t require an emergency room visit — insect stings and bites, allergy issues, minor infections, and so on. The $70 visit fee includes your exam, diagnosis, and treatment of many nonemergency conditions. You can find more information about QuickCare Clinics here. You can also download a list of Aurora’s Urgent Care and QuickCare clinics in Wisconsin in PDF form.
