Over 25 years, even cancer can’t stop Pat Ingelse
On April 2, Project Manager Pat Ingelse will celebrate 25 years at North Shore Bank. Even better, she’ll mark 15 months since being diagnosed with stage III cancer. If you know Pat, you won’t be surprised to hear that, rather than getting depressed when she learned about the disease, she threw herself into fighting it. You also won’t be surprised to hear that she’s taken a positive outlook on that battle. “Having cancer has opened so many doors for me,” she says. Shorelines’ Kathy Watson has written a long, lovely feature honoring Pat’s courage and optimism. Please take a look and feel free to share your feelings in the comments.
Around the Bank
Fight for Air Climb: A team from North Shore Bank took part in the American Lung Association fundraiser on Mar 21. Imaging Team Leader Kristin Hoch, Mequon Branch Manager Michele Padovano, Human Resources VP Molly Schissler, Product Analyst Kinnon Schreiber, and Commercial & Consumer Closing Manager Barb Wisneski (above) marched up the 1,034 steps at the U.S. Bank Center in downtown Milwaukee to help fight lung disease — that’s 47 floors and 94 flights of stairs! The team raised $728, and the whole event brought in $581,099. Kinnon was the first NSBer to the top, completing the ascent in 8 minutes, 47 seconds. The climb was humbling, he says. “I had quite a few friends growing up with asthma, and my mom would make me breathe through a straw after running around so I understood how they felt. I’m glad for the challenge, and it sounds like next year I’ll have to do it two or three times!”
Help a mother out: The Sussex branch is collecting donations through April for the 15th annual Mother’s Day Gift Bag Project, which treats moms who visit the Sussex-Area Outreach Services food pantry to some much-appreciated amenities. “We’re hoping our fellow employees find some unused items during spring cleaning and donate them to the cause!” says Branch Manager Candy Walecki. The project is looking for the following types of gifts: candles, jewelry, lotion, shampoo, body wash, soap, books, journals, perfume, cosmetics, stationery, note cards, accessories, household items, sweet treats, nail polish, picture frames, and gift cards. Monetary donations are also gratefully accepted. If you have anything you’d like to donate, you can drop it off at the branch or contact Candy to arrange pickup.
Department of the Week
Commercial & Consumer Loan Administration: Our Department of the Week is run by AVP Barb Wisneski, who shares the ins and outs of what goes on behind the scenes to give our clients the resources to achieve their goals. “We love new loans!” Barb says.
Service Anniversaries
You can congratulate your coworkers on their anniversaries in the comments.
Erika Smith, assistant branch manager–operations at Sussex, marks 5 years with the bank this week. “I can’t believe it’s been that long already,” she says. “I am extremely blessed to be working for such a great company! My favorite part of the job is helping people, coworkers and customers alike. Being able to make someone’s day is an amazing feeling.”
And Milwaukee Capitol Branch Manager Nichole Sargent also celebrates 5 years this week, and feels similarly. “It is such a blessing to work for North Shore Bank. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this company,” she says. “My favorite part of the job is helping customers with their financial goals.”
North Shore Shape Up
Colon cancer is largely preventable: Unlike many Americans, Project Manager Pat Ingelse had not had a colonoscopy before she was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer. Her brother and a friend had experienced complications during their colonoscopies, so she opted out of the test. She wishes now she’d shown up for that appointment. The American Cancer Society recommends that men and women at average risk for developing colon cancer have screenings beginning at age 50, and those screenings often catch cancer before it can do any harm.
