McKenna gives kids a fun lesson in banking

President and COO Jay McKenna stopped in to talk to the first graders at his kids’ school, St. John Vianney School in Brookfield, on May 5. Jay and the students discussed the importance of saving money and talked about how banks work. The kids wanted to know how the bank keeps track of customers’ money, why coins are different colors, whether North Shore Bank’s safes could survive a disaster like a fire, tornado, flood, or earthquake intact, and — perhaps most important — whether you can bring your dog to the bank. However, Jay notes: “When I showed them our app on my iPhone, they were not impressed. They all knew what an app was, and probably just assumed that banking, along with everything else in life, can be done via an app.”

Around the Bank

CSC survey results: Internal customers gave the Customer Support Center an overall rating of 98 percent satisfaction when it came to meeting SOAR service standards. That’s a 1 percent improvement over the already impressive results from the last two years. Jude Lengell has more details.

Social Security seminar: On May 6, we held a free event at Corporate for people seeking information about retirement planning as it pertains to collecting Social Security. Many people don’t know that there are multiple ways to file for Social Security — in fact, how and when you choose to file can change how much you collect on a monthly basis by hundreds of dollars. Light refreshments were served, and the room was filled to capacity. Above, Investment Consultant Dennis White addresses the group.

Destination Imagination: As part of its Free Community Shredding Day activities on May 2, Grafton invited kids from nonprofit Destination Imagination to hold a fundraiser at the branch. “We had previously partnered with them on a project to stop texting while driving, and it was so successful that they are advancing to the global finals in Kentucky this month,” says Branch Officer Jon Coleman. “They needed help raising funds, so we hosted a brat fry on Shredding Day, and they also had a table in the branch, where they talked about their project and got people to pledge not to text and drive.”

Green Bay grand opening: Our new branch in Green Bay will mark its grand opening with a celebration on June 6. The event will feature refreshments, activities, a petting zoo, and more, and the first 100 cars through the drive-thru that day will get free washer fluid. The new branch will offer video teller technology, as well as personal service from universal bankers.

Accounting: “I’m afraid I don’t have any funny stories,” Controller Nancy Lepic says of her team in Accounting. “We’re famous for being a very quiet department.” But for a quiet group, they’re plenty busy (especially at the end of the month).
