Once a “Shantytown,” Allouez is now a little more comfortable, and our branch there has evolved to match the community. The team there stays busy, too, doing everything from appearing on live TV to testing customers’ knowledge to losing — and, thankfully, finding! — other people’s dogs! Branch Manager Mickey Adams has the full report. Our featured department last week was Accounting.

What is your community like? What’s it known for?
Allouez was established in 1671 and known then as “Shantytown.” It is now a quiet residential village with tree-lined avenues and stately homes.
What annual or regular events are a big deal at the branches? Any big ones coming up?
We participate in the cerebral palsy telethon every year in March. We collect donations by selling candy bars, and our staff members also appear on live TV during the telethon to take donations from people who call in.
What services or products seem to be most important to your customers?
We pride ourselves on our outstanding customer service. We know the majority of our customers by name, and they feel welcome as they walk into the branch. We have staff members who have been here for many years, which creates comfort for the customers.
Is there some music, or a TV show or movie or book or anything that’s notably popular among the people at the branches?
We have a new trivia question every week, which is a big hit with the customers. We even read the question to customers using the drive-thru. Sometimes we pick our question based on the season — Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Packer or Brewers; we also use the newspaper for ideas or just randomly pick something. One of the most talked-about questions was “How many squares are on a Rubik’s Cube?” We had so many customers who challenged our answer, and we all had a great time with that one. We give out a small candy bar to our winners, and you would think they won the lottery.
What’s a great work story from the branch?
Recently Will, our UB, was dog-sitting and called in late to work because he’d lost the dog. Good news is, it was found in a neighbor’s car — the neighbor was taking it to the Humane Society.
