40 years in, Duane Bavlnka still leads the way in compliance

“If you looked up boring in the dictionary, you’d find my picture,” quips Compliance VP Duane Bavlnka, alluding to a comment made by a former coworker. “But he’s gone, and I’m still here.” Though Duane didn’t plan on a career in banking when he earned his degree in psychology, he found what he calls “an ideal workplace” here at North Shore Bank. Read more about his four decades of service here.

New Managers

Regency: Before joining North Shore Bank, Merissa Modory was a manager for teen clothing store Aeropostale. A born-and-raised Kenosha native, Merissa says she’d one day love to run her own Humane Society branch. “I have always loved animals and have a dog and two cats, all of whom are rescues,” she writes.

Kudos

We have a number of great comments this week from our customers. Thanks for making this the Bank of You!

“At my North Shore location, I received the most outstanding customer service I have ever come across. Not only are they happy and upbeat, they are also willing to help you out if you get into an unforeseen circumstance. This group is the reason I am returning most of my banking back to North Shore and recommending them to everyone I know. At this location I am a valued ‘guest’ and not just a process flow of black-and-white rules.”

“The officers and tellers at my North Shore branch know me by name. It is enjoyable to work with them.”

“When I was considering opening another new account, North Shore’s representative was very helpful and assisted me in selecting a product that fit my needs — not just what was ‘on sale’ at the time. I appreciated that.”

North Shore Shape Up

Eat more, gain less: Those 100-calorie snack packs seem like a good idea, but because they consist largely of carbs without many nutrients, they’re actually more likely to increase your hunger in the long run, compelling you to consume more later. Try protein-rich foods like almond butter, along with some fruit, for a more satisfying treat. You’ll feel full longer and won’t eat as much over time. Health.com
