McHenry’s Dawn Conley attends Weight Watchers locally, loses 22 pounds

Like many North Shore Bank employees, McHenry Assistant Branch Manager Dawn Conley has lost weight on the Weight Watchers At Work program. Unlike many of her colleagues, though, Dawn doesn’t attend meetings while she’s actually at work. “I joined the At Work program, but I don’t drive all the way to Corporate,” says Dawn, who attends meetings near her branch while enjoying the benefits of the At Work program. Read more about Dawn’s success with Weight Watchers — and how you can sign up for the new session starting Jan 22 — here.

Corporate Round Robin: The Corporate Community Outreach Committee’s Round Robin holiday event on Dec 10 raised $853 for Interfaith Senior Programs. We also donated 120 door hangers, three boxes of Giving Tree goods, and $500 in gift cards to the program. North Shore Bank employees also made 40 blankets for Heartland Hospice and donated two boxes of cookies and other items to the nonprofit. See more photos from the event here.

Race for the Hungry: On Dec 29, North Shore Bank hosted the seventh annual Race for the Hungry charitable competition at four Wisconsin supermarkets. The race challenges two teams to see which one can fill a shopping cart with the most food from the store’s aisles. The collected food then goes to a local food pantry, while the winning team receives a $100 gift card for groceries and the other team gets a $50 gift card.

Brian and Hannah Kuxmann, whose family recently started banking with North Shore Bank, raced in the Howard competition against Branch Manager Tavie Folk. Their mother, Julie, sent Tavie a note afterward: “Thank you for choosing our family to participate in the food race! We will be using the gift card for a family dinner at home on New Year’s Eve. Your staff goes above and beyond providing excellent customer service. Thank you for all that you do!”

The race brought in $658.37 total in groceries for the El Rey branch, $557.40 for Green Bay East, and $502.56 for Howard, as well as an unreported amount for our Kenosha Festival Foods branch.

Game night at HALO: Northside and Westgate employees volunteered at Racine’s Homeless Assistance Leadership Organization on Dec 18, helping to put on a game night for kids at the facility. The group enjoyed holiday snacks and cocoa, and Seymour Savings showed up for a game of “Seymour Says.” We also presented HALO with a check for $225.44, raised by Burlington, Northside, Regency, and Westgate branches at the bank’s countywide chili cook-off earlier in the month.

Ugly sweaters in Racine: Northland wasn’t the only branch to get hit with the ugly sweater bug during the holidays. Northside and Westgate employees wore them for Christmas Eve, too.

“We got lots of smiles,” reports Branch Manager Lisa Brooks. “Customers especially loved Teller Jessica Cranley’s lighted Christmas tree sweater with real lights!”

North Shore Shape Up

Make your resolutions stick: “Setting small, attainable goals throughout the year, instead of a singular, overwhelming goal on Jan 1, can help you reach whatever it is you strive for,” says psychologist Lynn Bufka, PhD. If you’re looking to keep your New Year’s resolutions in 2016, the Aurora Employee Assistance Program offers these tips:

Start small. Make resolutions that you think you can keep. If, for example, your aim is to exercise more frequently, schedule three or four days a week at the gym instead of seven.

Change one behavior at a time. Don’t get overwhelmed and think that you have to reassess everything in your life. Instead, work toward changing one thing at a time.

Talk about it. Having someone to share your struggles and successes with makes your journey to a healthier lifestyle that much easier and less intimidating.

Don’t beat yourself up. Perfection is unattainable. Remember that minor missteps when reaching your goals are completely normal and OK.

Ask for support. Accepting help from those who care about you and will listen strengthens your resilience and ability to manage stress caused by your resolution.
