On May 30, employees from Brookfield Square and Corporate were part of Elm Grove’s Memorial Day parade.

“The streets were full!” reports Branch Manager Margie Brusa, who said attendance was estimated at around 2,000 people. “It felt like more — we went through a ton of candy. We saw many customers, and even our Senior VP of Retail Banking, Sue Doyle, in the crowd.”

Along with Margie and assorted family and friends, Assistant Branch Manager Anne Kagerah, Senior Mortgage Lender Steve Luebke, Senior Mortgage Lender, and Mailroom Assistant Colleen Moore helped out at the parade. •••

North Shore Bank joined the community to cheer the Burlington High School Demons, who won their first-ever state baseball championship on June 16.

“There was a wonderful parade on Saturday that made its way through town and directly in front of our branch to see the decorated front windows,” Burlington Assistant Branch Manager Barb Blazina said. The team beat Arrowhead High School, located in Hartland, Wisconsin, 6-4 for the title.

Barb added that the team’s graduating seniors are in the running for a statewide award, and that one senior does bank with North Shore, though he could not, unfortunately, be reached for comment. Go Demons! •••

North Shore Shape Up: Make the most of Mondays
Johns Hopkins, Columbia, and Syracuse universities have joined forces for a public health initiative called “the Monday Campaigns.” Their research suggests what you may already suspect: The first day of the workweek is a good time to get back in a healthier groove, because it’s “when most people transition back to a more structured routine — and when they are more likely to search for health-related information on the internet, start a diet or exercise program, quit smoking, and make doctor’s appointments.”

Here are the researchers’ suggestions for making Mondays work for you:

  • Hit the reset button. Forget what happened (or didn’t happen) over the weekend.
  • Set your intentions for the week. Be specific and make your goals attainable in small actionable steps (such as “I will take a 30-minute walk three times this week,” “I will add a cup of vegetables to my dinners,” or “I will drink water in place of soda”).
  • Get everyone on board. Informing friends and family of your intentions makes you more accountable, and enlisting others as social support helps motivate you to stick with the plan.
  • Keep at it. But if you lose your way, get back on track the next day — or at least by the next Monday.
