VP Steve Dowe retires after 30 years
Steve Dowe, vice president, Facilities & Services, retired last week from North Shore Bank after over 30 years of service. He sent this note to his colleagues here:
It is with bittersweet emotions that I write to announce my retirement. I have enjoyed my time at North Shore Bank over the past 30 years, but the time has come to begin another phase in my life.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have met so many wonderful people and worked for a company of high business, community, and social standards. Your friendship and support will remain with me always.
Steve celebrated his 30th anniversary with the bank back in November. And in 2015, he talked to Shorelines about the responsibilities of his department. In 2011, while marking his 25th anniversary, he noted that he never expected to stay at one company for so long.
Thank you for three decades of service, Steve! You will be missed. •••
Sweet 16 event raises money for MACC Fund
On March 21, the Corporate Community Outreach Committee organized a Sweet 16 fundraiser to benefit the MACC Fund (or Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer). Employees could complete a March Madness college basketball bracket, enjoyed a casual dress day, and formed teams of two to compete in a basketball challenge.
The activities raised $682 for the MACC Fund.
Direct leasing manager Bob Phillips and investment processor Kyle Vaclav won the basketball challenge, scoring 22 points in a minute. They received gift baskets that included gift cards to Champs sporting goods. Thank you to everyone who took part! More photos from the day are on Facebook. •••
Branches bowl for Big Brothers Big Sisters
North Shore Bank employees bowled in a fundraiser tournament for Big Brothers Big Sisters on March 19. Branch manager Becky Kolstad is actively involved in the organization and helped coordinate the tournament. The Sturgeon Bay East and Sister Bay branches sold shamrocks in anticipation of the event to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. Nice job, team! •••
North Shore Shape Up: Fend off spring allergies
If you suffer from seasonal allergies, you might not be excited about spring’s arrival. Cleveland Clinic Wellness offers two tips that could help.
First, try nasal irrigation — rinsing your nasal passages with warm, sterile salt water. “The practice may feel odd at first,” the clinic says, “but that’s because your sinuses are still irritated. As they heal, you should be able to tolerate the practice much better.”
Second, try to reduce your stress level. That may sound frivolous or unlikely, but, the clinic says, “Emotional stress has real, physical effects, including raising levels of epinephrine, a type of adrenaline that your body makes to fend off allergies. When you’re perpetually stressed, soaring epinephrine levels can make it hard to recognize allergens.” Practices like meditation or yoga could help with your allergies, along with delivering other benefits. •••
