Tim Gluth on staying fit without being a fanatic
We last talked with Tim Gluth, the bank’s digital solutions and emerging media manager, in February 2013. He had lost 35 pounds over the past year and a half and shared some of the technology he’d used to keep his diet and exercise on track.

After peaking at 215 pounds several years ago, Tim got down to 155 a couple of years ago. We checked in with him and heard about why that number has gone up a tad, why that’s OK, and what practices and tools he uses to maintain a healthy weight. Read more here about how Tim does it here.

Sussex collects buckets of gifts for moms in need

The Sussex branch collected donated goods throughout April for the Volunteer Organization of Women in Sussex, to be distributed to moms in need for Mother’s Day. The branch collected “two whole buckets of items, including candles, lotions, perfume, jewelry, and soaps,” branch manager Anne Kagerah said.

The goods came from area residents and branch employees. VOWS picked up the donations and brought them to the local food pantry, where Sussex Outreach Services will distribute them. •••

Howard celebrates Cinco de Mayo

The Howard-Suamico branch celebrated Cinco de Mayo last Friday with a simple addition to the office: some chips and salsa on the coffee stand. ¡Olé! •••

New Hires for May 11
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.

Southwest universal banker Laurene Bobadilla is a lifelong resident of West Allis. She previously worked for a competing bank and spent the last seven years in their fraud department. “I had the opportunity of a lifetime to sing in Rome three years ago!” she says. “I sing in a community group, and we do all kinds of music — popular, classical, show tunes, folk, you name it! A friend knows someone in the Indianapolis Symphony Choir. They were going to Rome to do a concert and a Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica and needed ‘reinforcements.’ So we auditioned, made it, and got to join them! It was SO amazing!”

Wauwatosa universal banker Martha Castro was born in Mexico, but has lived in the United States since she was 6. She was previously part of the merchandise team at Macy’s and attends the Milwaukee School of Engineering. “My parents have always owned family businesses, and I have learned many valuable skills over the years, such as cooking, customer service, and managing their banking,” she says. Their businesses include a hardware store, a restaurant, and an appliance shop.

Sussex personal banker Katelyn Gross was born in Milwaukee, but moved to Richfield in grade school. She and her fiancé bought a house in Hubertus last year. She previously worked as a personal banker at Guaranty Bank. “I love going kayaking and hiking with my fiancé and dog, Nikko, on weekends,” Katelyn says. “We each have our own kayak, and Nikko rides along in mine — it’s a sight to see! We convinced our whole family and our friends to get kayaks so they can come along with us! I am hoping this year we can broaden our adventures and head to Door County or the Apostle Islands!”

Burlington teller Jennifer Heacox lives in Elkhorn. Before coming to North Shore Bank, she was a trainer at McDonald’s. She says, “A goofy fact about me: My birthday is St. Patrick’s Day, but I’m not Irish.” Jenny’s hobby is attending her sons’ sporting events.

Greendale personal banker Brian Memmel was “pretty much born and raised” in Oak Creek and now lives in Muskego. He and his wife, Amber, have a blended family: 12-year-old Liam and 7-year-old Madelyn are Amber’s from a previous marriage, and 5-year-old Clayton is Brian’s son from a previous marriage. And they just welcomed 6-week-old TJ — here’s a picture! — to the family. “My children are my life,” Brian says. He’s also a softball player and diehard Brewers fan. Previously, he worked in retail sales at Time Warner Cable, and he was an iron worker before that.

Customer assistance rep Ashley Peck has lived in Milwaukee County her whole life. She’s currently living in Greenfield. Before coming to North Shore Bank, she was a lead teller at Tri City National Bank. Ashley has been interested in photography since high school. “I like that it captures a memory that you can revisit for years to come,” she says. Her interest really picked up when her son, Ayden, was born two years ago. “He’s my best model,” she says. You can see one of her photos of Ayden here.

Pulaski teller Therese Poradek is from Little Suamico and previously worked as a head cashier at Cabela’s in Green Bay. “I love to go fishing and to hunt big game with my husband,” Terri says. “We fish a lot in local areas, and we also enjoy going to Canada on fishing trips. I shot my first black bear in Wisconsin three years ago — that was my most exciting hunting experience, along with bagging a 10-point buck. I’ve also gone on a moose hunt in Canada.”

Mortgage loan originator Jessica Sanchez was born in Chicago and lives in Milwaukee now. She previously worked as an MLO for Equitable Bank and also graduates this month from Alverno College with a bachelor’s degree in business management and a minor in adult education. “I studied for a term in Spain,” she says. “I was offered a scholarship to learn about business culture and how housing works there. I was also able to tutor some children in ESL. The country is beautiful — they have very nice castles, which is not something we see every day here in the States.”

Kenosha Main universal banker Trevor White is from Kenosha and previously worked for TruStone Financial Federal Credit Union. “One interesting fact about me is that I have built my own computer,” he says. “I play video games, and I needed a better computer — and it’s way cheaper to build your own. Plus, you end up with a better computer. I’d love to work in IT, but I still need to go to school first.” Trevor plans to build another computer in the near future, he says. •••

North Shore Shape Up: Don’t skip checkups, ladies!
A few years ago, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force announced that most women 65 and older no longer needed to be screened for cervical cancer. But, Berkeley Wellness cautions, that doesn’t mean senior women — or women of any age — should skip their annual women’s health checkups.

Even though a woman’s risk for cervical cancer declines from age 55 on, her risk for uterine, ovarian, and breast cancer increases. You can read more at the link above, or check out a PDF here. •••
