30th service anniversary: Kathy Johnson
Customer care specialist Kathy Johnson began her banking career when she was 16, with a job at First Savings in 1974. In 1987, she moved to Badger Bank, which merged with North Shore Bank about a decade later.

Since starting at Badger, Kathy has held half a dozen different positions here — and even met her husband while working at our Pewaukee branch! “Maintaining relationships with many of the customers and co-workers I’ve crossed paths with along the way has been a blessing,” she says. Read more about Kathy’s career and achievements and what she’s learned over the years.

Colleen is the ultimate example of excellent customer service. We have been having problems with accessing our online banking. North Shore Shape Up: Spicy food doesn’t cause ulcers
For years, doctors have believed that spicy foods could cause ulcers in the stomach or small intestine. But a recent study suggests that, on the contrary, spicy foods might actually help relieve ulcers.

Berkeley Wellness reports on the new research from India, which found that “capsaicin (the ‘hot’ element in chili peppers) can actually stimulate secretions in the stomach that help prevent and even help heal ulcers.”

The post notes that most ulcers are actually a result of bacteria. Other factors that can lead to ulcers include chronic use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, naproxen, and aspirin, as well as smoking and stress.

If you have an ulcer and spicy foods cause you pain, you should still avoid them. Otherwise, if you like a little heat, here’s one less thing to worry about! •••
