Pauline Paulson retiring from HR after over 20 years
A fixture of North Shore Bank’s Human Resources department for over two decades, AVP Pauline Paulson has served as our HRIS and benefits administrator since 1998. It’s been a great ride, but she’s finally ready to say adieu and retire on July 5. From here on out, as she told us two years ago, Pauline “won’t have to answer to an alarm clock.”

“Someone once told me — and I believe it’s true — that once you work in HR, you don’t go anywhere else,” she says. Read more to find out what’s ahead for Pauline!

Mary Eckel retires, having built a legacy of involvement
Muskego personal banker Mary Eckel has been in banking since her teens; she started at Maritime Bank in April 2001 and joined North Shore Bank when we acquired Maritime in 2010. “I actually was very excited about the acquisition,” she recalls. “We were in limbo for a year, year and a half, not knowing what was going to happen, and I was afraid of being bought out by a large bank. So I was very happy when I found out it was North Shore.”

Now, Mary says goodbye to the banking world, as she readies herself for retirement on July 6. Read on to see what she’s got planned!

Green Bay West celebrates video tellers

Tiffany’s cookies, complete with fun facts.

To help introduce the public to our video-teller services, the Green Bay West branch held “Video Teller Awareness Days” on June 21 and 22.

“We were trying to do something fun and creative,” said universal banker Tiffany Pennington, who made star-shaped sugar cookies as part of the festivities, and attached “video teller fun facts” to them. “The cookies were a huge hit with customers, and sparked lots of discussion about this awesome service we provide!”

Customers who went outside to greet a video teller through the drive-up machine also received an additional prize — a North Shore Bank car freshener and towel. •••

Shorewood Cycling Classic draws big crowd

Kids get ready for their race to begin.

The 14th annual Shorewood Criterium Cycling Classic took place June 22, drawing hundreds of spectators from all over the world.

North Shore Bank sponsored a kids’ race that evening, and operated a booth during the classic, where members of the public could sign up for a chance to win a bicycle gift basket. “We all had a great time,” area manager Shannon Weber reported. •••

Pup visits Tosa for Take Your Dog to Work Day

Princess, handling business.

The Wauwatosa branch had a visitor on June 23 to mark Take Your Dog to Work Day. Princess — a 9-year-old miniature poodle who belongs to teller Jazmin Vela — stopped in to help out. “She even took a try at Ray Guardiola’s job as personal banker,” Jazmin said.

Jazmin says Princess was so well behaved, the staff sometimes forgot she was even there. And, Jazmin adds: “On Monday, we had customers come in and ask for her and see when she would be back in, because she made their day.” •••

North Shore Shape Up: Alcohol and heart health
You’ve no doubt heard that an occasional glass of red wine is good for your heart. That’s not wrong, but be aware that the truth is more complex. As Cleveland Clinic Wellness points out:

With some studies throughout the years indicating that adults who drink moderately have lower rates of heart disease than people who abstain, the notion that “alcohol is good for your heart” took hold. But examining the data more closely leads to a different conclusion, according to a new research analysis. Since the group of abstainers also included former drinkers who quit for health reasons and people who never drank because of poor health, the link between moderate alcohol consumption and better heart health may be misleading. And indeed, studies that account for people’s baseline health have shown less benefit.

The clinic’s recommendation: “For your heart, stick with the habits that have been shown to help, such as regular exercise, a diet that’s rich in colorful vegetables and beneficial fats, and caring, supportive relationships.” •••
