Jackson Park opens new branch with ribbon cutting
Our new Jackson Park office marked its official opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 14. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett attended, along with other officials and bank leaders, as well as first-graders from the neighborhood’s St. Anthony Catholic School.
The new branch includes a special area for kids to learn about financial literacy. The ribbon for the ceremony was made of cash, and that money was later donated to St. Anthony. The students who attended received piggy banks and $25 each, deposited in new savings accounts. •••
Kudos for November 30
A customer recently shared his gratitude with mortgage loan originator Greg Kroll and his colleagues at our Shorewood branch:
Two years ago, I was recently divorced and with terrible credit. I went into the bank because I wanted to move forward in my life and was told to speak with Greg Kroll. I asked him how I could fix my credit and he gave me some great suggestions. At no time did he treat me like a hopeless case or like I was wasting his time. Tomorrow I am closing on my first home with him as my loan officer. Words can’t describe how grateful I am for his time and energy in guiding me to achieve my dreams!
I moved to Wisconsin 21 years ago and, after a horrible experience with my first bank, decided to open an account with you. Twenty years later I am closing on my first home with North Shore Bank. Your staff has always been wonderful, helpful and gone above and beyond to guide me through a lot of difficult moments. I love my bank!
And a teacher at Green Bay West High School thanked area branch manager Sharon Hack and the bank for providing financial education materials through the Banzai program. She wrote:
Thank you to providing my students the Banzai booklets. It was a great opportunity to allow students to work through real-life scenarios while working with a budget and balancing a checkbook!
Great work, everyone! •••
North Shore Shape Up: Don’t give up on whole grains
Grains have gotten a bit of a bad rap lately, but Cleveland Clinic Wellness notes that much of the problem has to do with processing that strips them of their most significant nutrients. Whole grains, on the other hand, still have plenty of worthy health benefits:
In a recent study, adults who were overweight and swapped out the processed stuff for whole grains ate less and lost weight, and levels of inflammation in their bodies dropped. Chronic inflammation is thought to contribute to many illnesses, including heart disease and some types of cancer, so lowering your levels is a great thing.
The clinic recommends trading refined grains like white rice for their whole-grain counterparts (like brown rice) and adding ancient grains like quinoa and teff to your diet, too. •••
Upcoming Events
The 36th Annual Burlington Christmas Parade takes place tomorrow, December 1. So does the Jackson Park Tree Lighting. Join North Shore Bank for seasonal refreshments afterward. More upcoming events here.
