25 years in, Nancy Hanson knows she’s in the right job
Corporate receptionist Nancy Hanson marked 25 years with the bank earlier this year. Though she moved around a bit during her first years with the bank, she’s spent the vast majority of that time at the receptionist desk at Corporate, serving as sort of a central brain ensuring that callers and visitors get to the right person. She jokes that chairman and CEO Jim McKenna tells everyone: “‘If you want to know anything, just ask Nancy!’ I don’t know everything,” she clarifies, “but he seems to think I do!”

Nancy talked with Shorelines about her work, why she didn’t make a good teller, and what’s in store for the future. Please read this great interview!

Cristo Rey recognizes student working at NSB
Cristo Rey Jesuit High School recognized Suleima Sanchez-Herrejon, a student working in our Deposit Services area, as one of their Employees of the Month for October.

As you may recall, four students from Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Milwaukee joined our team this summer. The school’s unique work-study model allows these youth to earn a portion of their educational costs by working in entry-level positions in Milwaukee-area companies.

Each month, Cristo Rey recognizes students as Employees of the Month, based on input from their employers. Suleima’s supervisor, Natalie Canadeo, says: “Suleima possesses a great deal of poise and professionalism. We are impressed with her speed and accuracy when producing customer letters and updating records. She comes in ready to work and is always willing to take on more!” You can read a little more about this honor here.

Grafton helps ‘Stock the Shelves’
Our Grafton branch and Costco’s Grafton location joined with Family Sharing of Ozaukee County for the month of November to “Stock the Shelves” of the food pantry with nonperishable food items, reports branch manager Christen Meyer. The businesses collected 260 pounds of food, and the bank also raised $171 in monetary donations. That total includes $1 for every client who used the branch’s video teller machine during the food drive’s kickoff on November 1.

Family Sharing was chosen as the beneficiary of the food drive because of the impact it has made throughout the entire county, through its work to alleviate hunger. “Many people don’t realize how much need there is right here in Ozaukee County,” Christen says. “With 31 percent of the community struggling to meet their basic needs, the role of Family Sharing has increased over the years.” This year, Family Sharing will distribute more than 500,000 pounds of food to people in Ozaukee County. •••

NSB involved in numerous holiday events
Sue Doyle, senior vice president, retail banking, shared an update she sent to her team, highlighting the many community activities our branches are sponsoring, holding, or taking part in this holiday season.

She writes: “Thank you to all individuals participating in community events this holiday season. Your generosity brings our ‘SOAR Together’ principles to life, and I greatly appreciate your time and commitment.” Check out the whole list of bank holiday activities.

Paraplanner Tamara Drinkwine, who joins the Investments Department, is originally from Green Bay. “I spent 10 years in Minneapolis and another 13 in Wausau, but I’m back home now,” she says. She previously worked with financial advisors at Ameriprise Financial and is getting her master’s through North Central University in Minneapolis. “I love numbers,” Tammy says. “I’m a numbers girl — even though in the 10th grade, I was in the 4 percent level for math proficiency.”

Mortgage loan officer Taimur Khan was formerly a Community Reinvestment Act mortgage loan officer with US Bank. He says, “A cool fact about me is that I can speak four languages: English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi. I have Spanish on my bucket list.”

Sturgeon Bay universal banker Dale Massey says, “I have lived in rural Algoma all of my life, except for four years of college.” Dale recently retired from Door County Medical Center, where he was the patient access manager. He has been married to his wife, Cindy, for 39 years, and they have three children and six grandchildren. “I love going on adventures with the grandchildren,” he says.

Franklin teller Patience Scribner is from Shawano and previously worked at a call center for Disney. She says, “I also work for my dad, building dirt-track race cars for people all over the United States.”

Mortgage loan officer Eric Van Den Busch is from Green Bay. He previously worked as an organizational development consultant. “I helped businesspeople (many of them Realtors) increase communication and sales skills, grow their business, and become more organized and effective at their work,” he says. Eric has taught 194 credits at four regional colleges in the areas of leadership, marketing, and finance — “over nine years of full-time experience,” he notes. •••

Kudos for December 7
Branch sales manager and VP Craig Witz writes: “When I have a voicemail from a customer that simply says, ‘I need to talk to you about one of your employees,’ I brace myself for a tough conversation. Imagine my surprise when I returned the call — the customer was reaching out because he was overjoyed at the experience he had while opening a new account with Danielle Ritz at Pewaukee.”

The customer told Craig: “This was my first time working with North Shore Bank, and it was a very, very good experience. Danielle made us feel comfortable, took her time with us, and made us feel welcome. What a great asset she is to the bank! I intend to do more business with North Shore Bank in the future.”

Thank you, Danielle, for providing SOAR service that won over this new customer! •••
