‘Divine intervention’ brought retiring Bergen to NSB
Fox Point branch manager Carol Bergen had years of banking experience, but didn’t really consider it her career until a chance encounter almost 15 years ago.

“It was divine intervention,” recalls Carol, who retires next Friday, April 27. In late summer 2003, Carol was looking to reenter the workforce after taking some time off. She and her husband, Keith, were heading out of town, and she had a small check to cash. Keith ran into the Fox Point branch, where the teller half-jokingly asked if he was interested in the open branch manager position.

No, Keith said, but his wife had managed a bank before. Read more to find out what happened next.

Zoo Egg-Stravaganza offers fun despite cold temps

North Shore Bank helped out at the Racine Zoo Egg-Stravaganza on March 31, and Racine area manager Lisa Brooks (above at left, with Regency branch manager Mary Benz) declared the event a success.

“Employees helped kids make butterflies from paper and clothespins,” Lisa said. “It gave a bright burst of color to a gray, frigid day.” She noted that the cold temperatures did mean the event moved indoors to the monkey house, but didn’t keep people away. All three Racine branches and Kenosha Central had staff on hand to pitch in. Above are Northside assistant branch manager–sales Cathy Straka and Westgate teller Jessica Cranley. •••
