Mindfulness has become a pretty mainstream term in the last few years, but, really, what is it? And why should you care?
Mindfulness is focusing on the thought occupying your mind or the situation you’re in, and looking at it on purpose, in the present moment, without judgment. Neither emotions nor opinions sway your focus.
There’s strong evidence that when you master mindfulness, you are able to make smarter, clearer decisions that are less driven by emotion. You are better able to set aside distractions and get more done. Overall, you feel calmer and better able to handle stressful situations. This is a great skill for children, too!
For eight weeks starting November 5, exercises will be available every Monday on the Wellness/Mind page to help you learn more about mindfulness. Learn the basics, and practice techniques at your own pace, on your own time. Each week, there will be a “mini lesson” you can review at your leisure, along with helpful exercises, suggested readings, tips, and other fun things!
Give yourself a chance to be open and give it a try. You will probably like the results!
