Top DM Brian Bozek likes having a plan
This month, Shorelines is honoring the achievements of our top retail managers for the fiscal year 2018. To close things out, top district manager Brian Bozek.

“I have been so pleased to support Brian’s growth as a leader for the three years he has been a district manager,” says VP branch sales Craig Witz, noting that Brian has also been named top DM each of those years (and was named a Branch Manager of the Year right before that). “His enthusiasm for positive customer outcomes comes through in everything he does. He is just so energetic, it’s infectious!”

Brian says he’s generally a positive, upbeat person, but that he gets an extra boost of energy from his team. “I always push people to do more than what they think they can do, and when they do that, it resonates with the customers. And when I see them succeed, it rubs off on me.” Read more about what drives Brian!

Candy Cane Lane opening night raises over $2,500

As in years past, last Friday night, North Shore Bank helped open up Candy Cane Lane in West Allis for visitors who wanted to take in the well-known holiday lights display.

“The night was awesome,” said Southwest branch manager Joline Lazarski, who has been heavily involved with the event, which will run through December 26 and collects donations for the MACC Fund, an organization that helps children with cancer. “We collected over $2,500 and the bank matched $1,000 of that.” She said the stream of cars was continuous from 6 to 9 p.m.

“It was a fun night with great weather,” Joline said. “A lot of walkers picked up North Shore Bank reindeer antlers, and there was lots of fun Christmas music to dance to.”

Employees who helped out at Candy Cane Lane include New Berlin teller Kelly Doucette, Wauwatosa teller supervisor Allison Gadbois, Franklin assistant branch manager–sales James Gottemoller, Wauwatosa teller Jessie Krajcir, Southwest teller supervisor Jaime Kraus, debit card, network, and process specialist Kate Madderom, Southwest teller Nicole Ndanda, and systems-process support specialist Beth Williams. Cudahy Family Festival a success

Games, pumpkins, face painting, and food were on offer at the Cudahy branch’s fall Family Festival on October 20. Personal banker Stefanie Toledo said she didn’t have an exact number of attendees, but that enough folks showed up to clear the bank out of pumpkins and for the Cudahy High girls basketball team to sell everything they had on hand for a fundraiser cookout.

Along with Stefanie, branch manager Ray Guardiola and tellers Sherita King and Jody Perron helped with the event. Above, Sherita helps a young fest-goer with a financial game. •••

New Hires for November 29
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.

Burlington teller supervisor Noel Flanders is from Union Grove and previously worked for Reebok. She is married with a 7-year-old daughter, and has played violin since childhood. “I took lessons for nine years, but haven’t played very often since high school. With life and family changes and less spare time these days, I only play once or twice a year,” she says. “When I was younger, my mother worked in nursing homes, and the group I played with would play for the nursing home residents for holidays. I also played in the pit orchestra for two musicals in high school.”

Menasha teller Wylee Meinhardt is from Appleton and previously worked for Thrivent Financial. She has a 5-year-old gray cat named Opal, and also owned Opal’s mom and grandmother. “They were pretty different from her!” Wylee says. “They both liked to be outside, and Opal is terrified of that. And they were not very cuddly cats, while Opal is — she loves attention.”

El Rey teller Teresa Sanchez was born in Mexico and immigrated to Milwaukee 23 years ago, where she raised two sons and is now enjoying a 5-month-old grandson. Her position at North Shore Bank will take her in a different direction from her previous employment. “After working as a forklift driver for the last 13 years, this new job will be a new challenge,” she says. “I look forward to working for North Shore Bank and serving my community!” •••

Ostroski’s son, grandson run into Heisman winner

VP commercial banking Phil Ostroski’s son Joseph had a cool experience earlier this fall, when he and Phil’s 4-year-old grandson Louis met former NFL running back Tony Dorsett Sr. (above at left) in Pittsburgh International Airport. All three guys were on their way to cheer on the University of Pittsburgh Panthers as they took on the Penn State Nittany Lions. Alas, the game didn’t go well for the Panthers — who were on the losing end of a 51-6 final score — but Phil notes that they’ve rebounded and play Clemson for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship this Saturday.

“Everyone had a great time,” he says of Joseph and Louis’s trip, describing their meeting with Dorsett — who led Pitt to a national title and won the Heisman Trophy in 1976, and played for the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos professionally — as “serendipity.” •••

North Shore Shape Up: Stress may be hurting your brain
Medical experts have known for a long time that high levels of ongoing stress can lead to heart problems and other physical ailments. Now, Cleveland Clinic Wellness reports on research suggesting that stress is bad for your mental health, too:

In a recent study, middle-aged adults who had higher levels of the stress-related hormone cortisol did worse on tasks that involved memory and brain functions compared with those who had lower levels of cortisol, and they also showed brain shrinkage.

The clinic notes that it is possible to reduce your stress levels in a number of different ways — like exercising regularly, taking up yoga or meditation, and getting enough sleep. It’s also a good idea just to make sure you get up during the workday and walk around, getting outside if possible. •••
