GET THAT PAPER

Earn up to $2,600 in incentives for referring new hires
Know anyone who’d be great to work with? North Shore Bank’s employee referral program offers great incentives, including a cash reward of $1,000 to $2,000 for qualified referrals.

Other incentives include a $100 gift card, given during your referral’s first week here; and, every quarter you make a qualified referral, the chance to win a $500 shopping spree on the Seymour Salutes Point Recognition website.

“There are so many reasons employees of North Shore Bank should refer others to work here,” says customer assistance rep Jailine Barbosa, who won the shopping spree last quarter. “With so many people unemployed, those of us with great jobs should help our friends and family get their foot in the right door. Offering someone you trust an opportunity to work for a company you value not only helps out that friend or family member, it also gets you some fantastic incentives through the referral program.”

A qualified referral is a friend, acquaintance, or recruit from another business who is hired by North Shore Bank and remains continuously employed with us for at least 180 days. (Someone who stops in at a branch to ask about a job is not a qualified referral, nor is a previous or current North Shore Bank employee.) All employees except for senior executives and HR staff are eligible for employee referral rewards, with the stipulation that district, branch, and department managers are not eligible if the referral is for a role they are responsible for.

To receive a referral payment, both you and your referral must be employed on the payment disbursement date. The first half of a referral payment will be paid out after the new hires’ first 30 days, and the remaining half paid out after 180 days.

To qualify for incentives, the Employee Referral Form must be filled out prior to your referral’s start date.

Questions? Get in touch with talent acquisition manager Janet Rosenthal at 262-797-3380 or jrosenthal@northshorebank.com. Happy referring! •••

BANK ON KINDNESS

Bank helps put in family learning space at laundromat

Kids look at a book in the new “Read, Play, Learn” space at Milwaukee’s Blue Kangaroo laundromat.

Thanks to a partnership between the LaundryCares Foundation, Milwaukee’s Office of Early Childhood Initiatives, and North Shore Bank, kids can enjoy a new “Read, Play, Learn” space at Blue Kangaroo laundromat in south Milwaukee.

The lounge space offers 50 new books in English and Spanish, along with some toys, and is meant for families to relax, have fun, and learn while waiting for their laundry. Children are encouraged to take books home; they will be restocked on an ongoing basis.

More than a quarter of the books will be about financial literacy, to give young readers an early start on saving, spending, and sharing wisely.

Jay McKenna cuts the ribbon at the unveiling ceremony for the new reading space.

President Jay McKenna and community engagement manager Alfredo Martin attended the ribbon cutting for the space last Thursday, February 10.

LaundryCares helps provide the underserved communities often served by laundromats with needed resources. The “Read, Play, Learn” space at Blue Kangaroo is the second in south Milwaukee, and the first to bring together public, private and philanthropic collaboration.

Reminder: We’re inviting the public to donate money to nine local food pantries at give.mastercard.com/p/northshorebank, through this Sunday, February 20. The bank will match up to $500 in donations to each pantry.

And you can win a $75 gift card by sharing one of the bank’s social posts! Northland branch manager Lacee Kalepp and mail services supervisor Colleen Moore are our winners so far. More information is here. •••

ONE MINUTE OF MINDFULNESS

Take time to unplug this evening

We are the most measured, tagged, and observed people in the course of human history. We voluntarily track steps taken, calories consumed, and money spent. We have photos of countless daily moments on our mobile devices. It’s only natural to feel momentary bouts of panic, given the speed of technology and change. The challenge for those with a mindfulness practice is finding a quiet place to simply be and not to feel required to be connected every moment. Pay attention to the wonderful world around you. It misses you!

Try this meditation for one minute every day, or longer if you want to:

TAKE SOME TIME this evening to unplug. Log off the computer, turn off your phone. Simply sit and be, maybe go outside for a bit, or read a book if you must.

Existence in late capitalism is a permanent rite of initiation. Everyone must show that they identify wholeheartedly with the power which beats them.
—Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno

How did this meditation go for you? Share your experience at shorelines@northshorebank.com and you’ll be entered to win a copy of A Mindful Day: 365 Ways to Live Life With Peace, Clarity, and an Open Heart, by David Dillard-Wright.

If you’d like a daily email reminder to practice one minute of mindfulness, email us with the subject “Mindfulness reminder.” •••

PERSONNEL UPDATES

New Hires for February 17
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.

Debit card and processing manager Laura Kramer worked at Tri City National Bank for 32 years, and spent the last 11 years as senior vice president and chief operating officer of deposit operations. She was also a client relationship manager for FIS. “I was born on Friday the 13th and lived in Monterey, California, for a few years,” she says. “I love to go to concerts and travel.” One favorite destination has been the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament. “However, I seem to be a target for golf balls,” Laura notes. “I’ve been hit by NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and former 49ers quarterback Steve Young, to name a couple such cases.”

Southwest universal banker Tamara White has been a stay-at-home mom to 1-year-old Alexander for the last year and worked as a finance manager at a car dealership for five years before that. “I really just enjoy spending time with my husband and son,” she says. “My ideal day is a relaxing football Sunday — especially because we are not watching Cocomelon. Cocomelon is my son’s favorite show, and it’s on so much that I pretty much know most of the songs by heart. I find myself singing them in my head from time to time.” •••
