Capper among 30 honored with Women of Influence Awards

Margaret Capper was honored as a Milwaukee Business Journal 2023 Women of Influence Award winner this week in downtown Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Business Journal honored 30 women — including North Shore Bank commercial banking manager SVP Margaret Capper — with a 2023 Women of Influence Award at a luncheon today at downtown Milwaukee’s Wisconsin Center. According to the publication, this year’s award winners represent “the cream of the crop of Milwaukee’s professional community.”

Margaret and her fellow winners also appear in a special section in the June 16 issue of the Journal.

Describing herself as “truly humbled” by the news of her win, Margaret said she had not expected it. “I like to work behind the scenes and not have a lot of attention drawn to me, as I don’t think my work and actions are that rare,” she said. “There are so many great people doing so much to help others.”

Winners were nominated for the Women of Influence Awards in a number of categories. Margaret was nominated as a mentor.

When he nominated her, North Shore Bank president and CEO Jay McKenna cited Margaret’s securing of Paycheck Protection Program loans for clients at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, her work with groups like the Latino Chamber of Commerce of SE Wisconsin, and her volunteer work teaching financial literacy at Marquette University High School and elsewhere. He noted that her team’s development was especially important to her.

Margaret’s Commercial Banking team entertained clients at the Milwaukee Brewers game at American Family Field last Sunday, June 11. “It was a special day!” she said.

“She is immensely proud of the creative and dedicated team that she has worked with and mentored,” he wrote. “Margaret’s team’s highs and lows are her highs and lows, and she truly goes out of her way to ensure her employees find their work fulfilling, exploring how to use skills outside of work, like she has.”

“It’s not just my accomplishment — it’s something we have accomplished together,” she said. “That development is not the work of one person, but of many.”

She credits her achievements to her upbringing.

“I have talked of my father in the past — he was a true servant leader and did what he was called to do. We witnessed his extraordinary gift, giving his time to help those in need,” Margaret said. “It was natural to follow in his footsteps.”
