You may remember that on Aug. 26, Granites Edge — a band formed by North Shore Bank employees Kristine Brunson and Josh Grimes — went to Walker, Minn., to compete in the Texaco Country Showdown regional contest. The showdown is a nationwide country music talent search. Previously, Granites Edge had won the local showdown competition in Marquette, Mich.

So how’d they do?

“We are very proud of our performance in Walker,” writes Kristine, a CSR at Green Bay East. “Both songs went very well, and we had great crowd response and participation. Our overall performance went very well, and based on our scores, the one place we missed out on points was in [not performing] original songs.”

The band didn’t have time to prepare originals, so they played “We Owned the Night” by Lady Antebellum and “Free” by the Zac Brown Band.

“It looks like, had we done originals and sung them as well as we performed our set, we would have possibly won the whole thing,” Kristine says.

She plays a variety of instruments with Granites Edge. Josh, an infrastructure technician with the band, plays guitar and sings. The other member of the group is guitarist Kyle Blackwell.

Granites Edge only formed in June. Given that, the members can take extra pride in how well they fared against the serious competition in Walker. And of course, they’re awesomely gracious about it too.

“We were beat by Shane Martin,” Kristine says. “He went all the way to the Nashville finals in the competition last year, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that he can pull out the win this year.”
