Mistletoe, midnight wake-ups and one early present

Three more holiday traditions to share this week. Wauwatosa Branch Manager Mary Rose Balzer shares the love with one from her childhood that she still practices today:

When I was growing up, my mom always put up mistletoe as part of our holiday decorations, and I’ve continued this tradition with my family. The fun, of course, is to get a kiss underneath it. My three boys have turned it into a game: They stand under the mistletoe and run when I try to give them a kiss. The best part is those moments when they least expect it and just happen to be standing there — and then get a big kiss! I just wish they wouldn’t wipe them off!

Silver Spring CSR Kathleen Quinn remembers the joy of Christmas Eves past:

When we were little, we always went out and got a real tree on Christmas Eve. We’d bring it home and put it in a stand, and then at about 7 p.m. we were sent to bed. While we were sleeping (ha ha), the tree was decorated by Santa, gifts appeared underneath it, and baby Jesus was put in the manger. At midnight, stomping, bells jingling and “Ho! Ho! Ho!”-ing filled the air. Then someone came and woke us up, and we went down and had cookies and milk that Santa had left for us. We opened presents, went back to bed, and then got up, had a huge breakfast and played with our gifts.

And Union Grove CSR Sara Coppersmith and her husband keep their Christmas Eve tradition alive, too:

Every Christmas Eve, my husband and I get to open one present. He and I both had that tradition in our homes growing up, and even though we currently do not have any children, we thought it would be fun to keep it going. I also stuff his stocking with a bunch of candy and scratch-off tickets!
