On June 7 and 8, our Racine branches participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, joining the more than 4 million people in over 20 countries who take part in the event each year to raise funds and awareness to save lives from cancer.
The Relay for Life is a celebration to honor and support people whose lives have been touched by cancer. Teams raise money for the ACS, individually and through fun group fundraisers, and then join together at a local track, taking turns walking overnight. They set up tables or campsites and enjoy entertainment, activities and special ceremonies throughout the night. Cancer survivors and caregivers are the guests of honor, and each Relay for Life kicks off by recognizing them and then holding an inspirational luminaria ceremony.
This year’s local event took place at the Racine Zoo, featuring a country-western theme and the motto “Give Cancer the Boot!” The 83 teams consisted of almost 1,000 participants, who raised $224,000. Each North Shore Bank team member committed to raising funds toward our team fundraising goal through donation support. We also raised money and had fun with relay-goers with our North Shore Bank prize wheel.
The “Sey-mour Cures” team consisted of co-captains Joe Beranis (Regency Personal Banker) and Katie Smith (Northside Assistant Branch Manager–Sales), and seven more memebers: Regency Teller Julie Davies, Regency Teller Amy Haight, Northside and Westgate Area Branch Manager Sara Luther Hagerman, Regency Branch Manager Jenny Meyer, Regency Teller Supervisor Vanessa Ramos, Regency Teller Stephanie Vance, and Teller Joan Watson. The team members are already looking forward to next year and thinking about ways to make their second year even more successful!
Way to go!
