This week’s Photos of the Week come from Fox Point Universal Banker Linda Settler. In 1995, Linda’s husband, Craig, gave her a particularly thoughtful Mother’s Day gift: He sent her and her mother, Phoebe, on a vacation to Arizona for a long weekend. Since then, Linda and her mom have made a practice of taking an annual trip together.
This year, they visited Montreal and Québec City at the beginning of September. “We spent one day visiting the Montréal Botanical Garden, host to Mosaïcultures Internationales 2013,” Linda writes. “Mosaïcultures is a French term for the use of bedding plants like a mosaic to form patterns. Some 50 works, containing 4 million flowers, graced the enchanting grounds of the Botanical Garden. The striking plant sculptures were created by horticulturist-artists from 25 countries and lined a spectacular mile-and-a-half path through the heart of the gardens. Participants were invited to produce a work that reflected their culture, using the theme ‘Land of Hope’ as inspiration.”
Linda passed along three of her favorite sculptures. Above, you can see “A True Story! (The Girl Who Loved Cranes),” produced by artists from Shanghai, China. You can read the background on the sculpture here.
Here are Linda and Phoebe in front of “Mother Earth.” A few details about this sculpture here.
And this is “The Man Who Planted Trees,” based on a story from 1953.
If you think these three photos are amazing, you’re in luck — Linda has a whole album full of them up on Facebook. You’ll be blown away!
