Cristo Rey student worker joins Loan Servicing for semester

Angel Perez-Vela will be here on Thursdays through the spring.

North Shore Bank welcomes another student worker from Milwaukee’s Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Sophomore Angel Perez-Vela started in Consumer Loans & Leases Servicing in January and will continue in the department throughout the semester.

“One of my favorite things to do is math, which is why I am really glad to get the chance to work here,” Angel said. “In a bank you are always going to need math, and working with numbers is something that really interests me.”

Cristo Rey’s corporate work-study program places students with local businesses where they can gain experience and foster connections to the area business community. North Shore Bank normally has four Cristo Rey students from the program, but limitations due to COVID-19, particularly with so many employees working from home, made that unfeasible this year. We look forward to welcoming more students again next school year.

Angel has been a boon to the department, VP loan servicing manager Joe Fretschel said.

“Angel is a very respectful and conscientious young man,” Joe said. “Whatever job we give him to do, he asks questions to make sure he understands what we are asking, and then he quietly does it. It’s a bonus that he is also so easy to work with.”

For his part, Angel said, “Everyone on the team is very nice, respectful, and welcoming. They are great people. I am thankful for the chance to work for North Shore Bank!”

When he’s not here, Angel likes spending time with friends and family and playing video games. He hopes to pursue a career where he can put his love of numbers to good use. “Joe says I would be a good actuary, since they are experts with math,” he said.

Angel will be here every week on Thursdays. If you see him, please give him a warm welcome!
