Governor appoints Jay McKenna to Banking Review Board

President and CEO Jay McKenna has been appointed by Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers to serve as a Professional Member of the Banking Review Board.

McKenna’s appointment was confirmed in March 2024 by the Senate, with his term concluding on May 1, 2028.

The role of the Wisconsin Banking Review Board is to advise the banking division of the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions in respect to improvement in the condition and services of banks and to review the division’s acts, orders, and determinations.

“I’m honored to have been selected by Governor Evers for this esteemed position,” said McKenna. “The Banking Review Board is a crucial advisor in the industry, and I’m proud to play a role in the betterment of banking services in the state.”

McKenna has been an officer at North Shore Bank since 1999 and was named CEO in 2023. He previously served as a member of the Office of Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) Mutual Savings Association Advisory Committee, on the board of the Wisconsin Bankers Association (WBA), and as chairman of WBA’s government relations committee. 

Additionally, he was previously president of the Milwaukee chapter of Financial Executives International and served on the American Bankers Association (ABA) Accounting and Governmental Relations Administrative Committees. McKenna is currently on the ABA Government Relations Council, is the immediate past chairman of the Zoological Society of Milwaukee, is on the board of directors of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School of Milwaukee, and serves on the finance committee of Marquette University High School.

Volunteers needed for Fox Cities Kidz Expo on April 20th

For the sixth year in a row, North Shore Bank is the presenting and stage sponsor of the Fox Cities Kidz Expo, and the Appleton branch would love to enlist a few more volunteers to help the event shine. The Kidz Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center, 355 W. Lawrence St., in Appleton. This year’s theme is “Rock Around the World”.

About 7,000 people show up for the free day of activities for kids, said Lacee Kalepp, Assistant Vice President and Community Engagement Manager. “It’s a fun, well-run, educational experience for kids and the whole family,” she said. “Kids get to interact at every one of the 70 booths.”

Plenty of fun things are planned at North Shore Bank’s booth, including the North Shore Bank Polaroid photo station, where kids can pose with props like flags and passports in front of a backdrop with scenes from around the world, and a postcard coloring station.

Aubrey Abrahamson, Allouez Assistant Branch Manager, will emcee the event on the stage, and present about North Shore Bank six times during the day. In addition to her presentations, the stage will host Hmong dancers, drummers, science and martial arts exhibitions, and more.

As the presenting sponsor, North Shore Bank volunteers will be handing out green bags to guests that they can use as they move about the event, collecting items at the booths.

Lacee said anyone who would like to volunteer to help with the event is welcome. She needs people to help with the photos, coloring station, and handing out the North Shore Bank bags. She’s also looking for someone to dress up as Seymour for the afternoon shift, 11:30-2.

Girl Scouts become ‘bank employees’ for an afternoon

The Shorewood branch recently welcomed Girl Scout Troop #1181 to experience what it is like to be a bank employee for the afternoon.

Each Girl Scout was welcomed with a name badge and put to work right away. The girls learned about different aspects of the bank and each person’s areas of responsibility while focusing on saving for the future.

The Girl Scouts started their visit with Associate Banker Karyn Baumann, who allowed the girls to help run coin through the coin machine. After this was completed, Karyn explained that if the girls worked to save money in their piggy banks and bring their banks in, we can run the money through the coin machines and deposit those funds in a savings account where they can watch their money grow.

Once done on the teller line, the girls had a turn in the banker’s office with Personal Banker Micki Usama. Micki explained debit cards and went over the benefits of Greenlight with the girls. One of the girls has her own Greenlight debit card, so was able to share stories of how easy it is for her to save, use, and watch her funds grow.

Once done with Micki, the girls went to Branch Manager Shannon Weber’s office for their job interview. How can we make them employees if they have not yet had an interview? Here I asked them questions regarding saving for their future as well as fun questions to learn more about them. A few examples of interview questions: Tell me about a time you really wanted to buy something versus you really needed to buy something? If you could have any job when you grow up, what would you want to do and why?

After their interviews, we went upstairs for a meeting. When the girls got to the conference area, they found a North Shore Bank bag for each of them along with trinkets they could take home. There was also an ice cream party waiting for them as well. While we enjoyed our ice cream we took time to ask questions about what we had learned and talked about our experience in the bank. The girls had such a fun time touring the branch and learning, and we had a fun time hosting them! ~ Shannon Weber

 

Pulaski branch joins in on Easter fun for kids

During spring break for the Pulaski Community School District, kids participated in the annual Easter Eggstravaganza Passport hunt. 03134

Kids visited local businesses in the Pulaski area to have their passports stamped. If they received 15 or more stamps from local businesses, they were entered into a drawing for a grand prize.

Pulaski North Shore Bank participated by creating a fun coloring station and a creative “Fun Putt” for the kids! It was an enjoyable week seeing the children and families visit for their stamp.
