Castles, historic sites wow employee on trip to Japan

Tyler Kebis at Himeji Castle

Tyler Kebis, Business Banking Specialist, recently returned from a 10-day trip to Japan with his college friends, and a few of the sites he saw there are still on his mind.

Himeji Castle

Himeji Castle, for instance, is one spot that just blew him away. “It really was incredible. The restoration efforts have kept the castle in great condition, and the view from the top floor is breathtaking,” he said. The cherry blossoms were in bloom while the group was there, which added to the beauty.

They did a tour of Mount Fuji, going up the mountain on a cable car, but the rest of the trip was all self-guided. They visited the Toyko Skytree, which Tyler described as “like the Space Needle, but even larger.” The Skytree had a large observation deck and a big shopping district.

Tyler said the locals were very friendly, and the food was excellent, including “the best ramen I’ve ever had.” He was impressed by the train system but suggested that anyone who is considering a visit take the time to learn how it all works before traveling. He and his friends figured it out on the go, and it all worked out, but knowing more before they went would have been useful.

“It would be easy to get lost if you aren’t careful,” he said with a laugh.

Japan was so impressive that Tyler said he hopes to go back, and he encourages others to visit as well. “It is absolutely beautiful,” he said.
