Office mini-golf competition and collection supports summer lunch program

Heidi Becker won the “You have the highest score” prize, Jake Verhaalen and Glenda Waters (far right) took second place, and Anna Morrison (second from right) won first place.

Employees at the corporate headquarters participated in a fun, creative mini-golf event last week to collect food and funds for Feed the Kids, a 10-week summer meals program for children living in Milwaukee’s underserved neighborhoods. About 1,500 meals are distributed, and each consists of a sandwich, fruit, snack, and juice or water.

Employees used their creativity to make the donations into challenging mini-golf holes.

The Corporate Community Outreach Committee organized the event, which showcased our commitment to making a positive impact in our community.

Between June 1 and June 19, lunch-appropriate foods, Ziploc sandwich bags, and plastic spoons were collected for Feed the Kids. Starting on June 17, teams began building their mini-golf holes using the food donations and office supplies as the building blocks.

Then, in two sessions on June 20, employees were invited to visit the nine mini-golf holes. Each golfer kept track of his or her own score to arrive at the first- and second-place winners. The first-place winner, Anna Morrison, received a $30 gift card to Tee Aire mini golf and a desktop golf course. Second place winners Jake Verhaalen and Glenda Waters got $20 gift cards and the desktop golf courses. Heidi Becker won the “You have the highest score” prize, a desktop golf course.

Jody Moore, lending sales specialist, said employees on the first floor (Human Resources, the Brookfield Square branch, and Business Banking) collected $400 to buy items to donate to Feed the Kids, along with other donations. All of the items were used to build their mini-golf hole.

Team shoppers included Tyler Kebis, Jacob Verhaalen, and Maria Baumer from Business Banking, and Morgan Stark from HR. The setup crew included Tyler, Jake, Karen Pofhal from the Brookfield Square branch, Patrick McKenna from Business Banking, and Ryan Melcarek from HR.

Stephanie Hallgren, BSA/AML quality control specialist, said she was impressed by how many good golfers there are at North Shore Bank, and, of course, by the generosity of her coworkers. “It is always enjoyable to donate to such a great cause and have fun while doing it,” she said.

Employees had a good time figuring out how to create interesting mini-golf holes, and using the materials at hand, gave everyone an entertaining challenge.

“The creativity that the employees of our bank have is amazing!” Stephanie said.

Congratulations to all who took part!

NORTH SHORE STARS

Bank leadership thanks employees for hard work, dedication

Julie Sterna, commercial portfolio manager, arriving to work through a balloon arch.

Throughout the month of June, employees were surprised by various bank leadership team members as a thank you and show of appreciation for all that our wonderful employees do to make North Shore Bank stand out.

At branches, leadership greeted employees with clappers. In addition, thoughtful notes and a treat were shared.

At corporate, employees were greeted by leadership with kazoos and band hats. They also walked the red carpet on their way into the building, then through the balloon arch onto the elevator. The fun event even inspired some employees to strike a pose!

“We wanted to surprise and delight employees coming to work and thank them for what they do,” said Sue Doyle, SVP of retail banking.

Thank you to all employees for everything you do. We appreciate you!

OUT OF OFFICE

Employee uses volunteer PTO to accompany son’s class to Capitol

Aradonis Nusberger and her son, Jaxson

Grafton branch Lead Teller Aradonis Nusberger recently used her volunteer PTO to accompany her son Jaxson’s class on a field trip to the state Capitol in Madison.

The visit to the Capitol is a staple for many fourth-grade classes in Wisconsin.

Aradonis said the day started at the Capitol with a tour that explored the building’s rich history. The tour focused on the history and symbolism of many paintings and sculptures. “The kids were super excited to learn that more than 200 Badgers are depicted throughout the Capitol in either paintings or sculptures,” she said.

In the State Assembly room, they met State Representatives Darrin Madison and Paul Melotik, who explained what members of the assembly do. The students spoke to the representatives about a new bill designed to give kids in Wisconsin more recess during the school day.

After the Capitol tour, they visited Camp Randall. “My group of fourth-grade boys was so excited about this part of the tour!” she said.

Here are a few fun facts Aradonis and the class learned:

  • The stadium seats 75,000 people.
  • The student section tickets sell out (on average) in 45 minutes.
  • When the crowd starts the traditional “Jump Around” during each game, the stadium shifts almost half an inch. The first time “Jump Around” happened in Camp Randall was in 1997, and it registered as an earthquake at the nearby Department of Geoscience!
  • Bucky Badger’s real name is Buckingham, no relation to the King.

Pewaukee parking lot initiative funds 4th of July fireworks

Pewaukee Branch Manager Anne Kagerah (in black) presents the check to the Friends of the Parks of Pewaukee.

The Pewaukee branch donated $2,000 to the Friends of the Parks of Pewaukee this week to help fund the annual Fourth of July fireworks display. The branch’s parking lot was transitioned from privately owned to a community-give-back parking system, providing accessible parking to the downtown area with proceeds reinvested into the community as part of our Bank on Kindness™ initiative. 03277

The Friends of the Park group was selected at random to receive the funds; last year, the funds went to the Kiwanis Club of Pewaukee.

The Marketing and Customer Support Center teams held a surprise baby shower last week for Jordan Gundrum, data analyst. Jordan and his wife, Brooke, are expecting a baby girl — their first child — in August.

Jordan is part of the Marketing team and supports the Customer Support Center, so both teams brought gifts and cake.

“It was a total surprise!” Jordan said. “It’s very nice to work at a place where your coworkers show so much love and support.”
