Employees at the corporate headquarters participated in a fun, creative mini-golf event last week to collect food and funds for Feed the Kids, a 10-week summer meals program for children living in Milwaukee’s underserved neighborhoods. About 1,500 meals are distributed, and each consists of a sandwich, fruit, snack, and juice or water.
The Corporate Community Outreach Committee organized the event, which showcased our commitment to making a positive impact in our community.
Between June 1 and June 19, lunch-appropriate foods, Ziploc sandwich bags, and plastic spoons were collected for Feed the Kids. Starting on June 17, teams began building their mini-golf holes using the food donations and office supplies as the building blocks.
Then, in two sessions on June 20, employees were invited to visit the nine mini-golf holes. Each golfer kept track of his or her own score to arrive at the first- and second-place winners. The first-place winner, Anna Morrison, received a $30 gift card to Tee Aire mini golf and a desktop golf course. Second place winners Jake Verhaalen and Glenda Waters got $20 gift cards and the desktop golf courses. Heidi Becker won the “You have the highest score” prize, a desktop golf course.
Jody Moore, lending sales specialist, said employees on the first floor (Human Resources, the Brookfield Square branch, and Business Banking) collected $400 to buy items to donate to Feed the Kids, along with other donations. All of the items were used to build their mini-golf hole.
Team shoppers included Tyler Kebis, Jacob Verhaalen, and Maria Baumer from Business Banking, and Morgan Stark from HR. The setup crew included Tyler, Jake, Karen Pofhal from the Brookfield Square branch, Patrick McKenna from Business Banking, and Ryan Melcarek from HR.
Stephanie Hallgren, BSA/AML quality control specialist, said she was impressed by how many good golfers there are at North Shore Bank, and, of course, by the generosity of her coworkers. “It is always enjoyable to donate to such a great cause and have fun while doing it,” she said.
Employees had a good time figuring out how to create interesting mini-golf holes, and using the materials at hand gave everyone an entertaining challenge.
“The creativity that the employees of our bank have is amazing!” Stephanie said.
Congratulations to all who took part!
