CUSTOMER FEEDBACK

Customers express heartfelt gratitude to Mary Rose Balzer

Mary Rose Balzer

Wauwatosa Branch Manager Mary Rose Balzer recently received two handwritten notes and a handmade gift from customers expressing appreciation for her help and excellent service.

The first note came from the sister of a woman who passed away. The sister thanked Mary Rose “for being so kind and helping her (sister) for the past 20 years!” The sister also acknowledged how Mary Rose had helped her navigate the financial side of this difficult time.

The other letter stated, “Thank you for helping us when we came into your office. It’s a comfort to know that things are taken care of completely and thoroughly.”

Well-deserved compliments for Mary Rose!

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

North Shore Bank Shorewood Feast marks another year of smashing success

Mequon Branch Manager Farrah Mason, Senior Loan Funding Representative Shannan Mahloch and Community Engagement Manager Shannon Weber took a moment for a quick picture during the Harvest Dinner.

The fifth annual North Shore Bank Shorewood Feast enjoyed its biggest crowd ever on Sept. 14. Loads of people came out to check out the food, music, vendors, events for kids, and, of course, the sold-out Harvest Dinner feast that takes place right in the middle of Oakland Avenue!

Two little ones decorating banks to take home.

Community Engagement Manager Shannon Weber was blown away by the excitement and energy of the day. “It was amazing!” she said. “We had great weather, the biggest turnout yet, and so much fun. The Harvest Dinner did not disappoint as the food was amazing with a variety of wonderful chefs.”

The North Shore Bank booth offered fun activities for those who stopped by, including Be Kind postcards, Polaroid photos (people lined up for them!), coin banks to decorate and fun yard games like Giant Jenga and Connect 4.

Visitors to the event were having so much fun that the vendors ended up keeping their booths up until 9 p.m. They usually tear down around 7 p.m., but there were so many people and so much going on that they stayed open.

The “Be Kind” backdrop was a hit with the crowd.

Shannon sends a big shout-out and thank you to everyone who helped at the North Shore Bank booth that day, including Mequon Branch Manager Farrah Mason, Senior Loan Funding Representative Shannan Mahloch, Shorewood Teller Carissa Vales, Travelling Lead Teller Tracee Born, Grafton Branch Manager Bridget Sobocinski, Muskego Personal Banker Sara Speich and  Commercial Loan Servicing Analyst Shakara Bobo. 03199

“I am so happy to see how much the North Shore Bank Shorewood Feast has grown in the Shorewood community,” Shannon said.

“It is great we sponsor an event that welcomes families and the community to come out and have fun.” See all the great photos from the day below!

FINANCIAL LITERACY AND EDUCATION

O’Dell shares the importance of saving with Menasha eighth-graders

Assistant Branch Manager Tisha O’Dell at Maplewood Middle School in Menasha

Over the past two weeks, Northland Assistant Branch Manager Tisha O’Dell presented information on saving to eight eighth-grade classes at Maplewood Middle School in Menasha. The presentations were part of the school’s Personal Development class.

Tisha said their teacher has been using Banzai’s Financial Education Program for the last two years, so this is the second year she’s been part of this unit for the school. North Shore Bank partners with Banzai to cover the curriculum costs and support financial literacy in select schools in our communities. Banzai is completely free to the schools that North Shore Bank sponsors. It helps reinforce the lessons and build community relationships when our financial experts can connect with schools to help students prepare financially for their future.

“We talked about the importance of saving, how to distinguish between wants and needs, and did some breakdowns of realistic savings plans for their goals,” Tisha said. “It was a lot of fun and the kids were very engaged, asking questions not only about saving but about credit scores, mobile banking, and careers in banking.”

Tisha is talking with the teacher about an opportunity to return for the digital citizenship unit in the spring to discuss digital wallets, P2P applications, and fraud.

Great job, Tisha!

EMERGING LEADERS GROUP

ELG’s first Core Team leader credits group as a confidence-builder

This is part of a new ongoing series featuring North Shore Bank’s Emerging Leaders Group members.

Ray Guardiola

Community Engagement Manager Ray Guardiola was an original member of North Shore Bank’s Emerging Leaders Group, which formed in late 2019/early 2020 as an employee-led volunteer group for individuals growing their careers with the bank. Ray served as the first chair of the ELG’s Core Team. The group was brand new at a challenging time—right as the COVID pandemic hit. But despite the obstacles, they kept it going and developed bonds between members. Today, the group has 27 members throughout the bank.

The following is a lightly edited interview with Ray about the ELG and how it has helped him forge new relationships across the business.

What positions have you held with the bank and Emerging Leaders Group?

North Shore Bank: Personal Banker, Branch Manager, Area Manager and Community Engagement Manager

ELG: Served as the first Core Team Chair, then a Core Team member, and now an ELG member

What connections have you made during your time in ELG that contributed to your success/professional growth?

We became closer with Senior Vice President – Retail Banking Sue Doyle and Chief Human Resources Officer Molly Schissler because they are both executive sponsors. They’re very open people and would discuss with anybody anyways, but I think to an employee, you know, the head of HR and the head of retail banking—that’s not somebody you’re going to email casually! We raise our questions to them and have discussions.

One of our events was our Senior Leader Showcase, where we spotlighted different leaders across the bank. It allowed us to understand their stories, what steps they took in their careers and the advice they’d give us. ELG is a platform to learn from some of our upper management and understand what they do, how they impact, and the steps they took to get to where they are. It’s confidence-building, too.

Also, we get to know each other very well, everybody who’s active in the group. We learn more about the other person and their responsibilities. So that way, we come to a better understanding of how the bank functions.

What skills do you feel that the group helped you to develop?

I would say that I developed some leadership skills from it. In taking on the Core Team, developing ways to implement new initiatives, and working through some of the challenges we faced early on. You have to go through it to learn how to handle some of those curveballs.

New grandparents celebrate the arrival of baby Hayden

Janet Rosenthal, AVP, Talent Acquisition Manager, and her husband, Jim, are new grandparents. Their first grandchild, Hayden, was born Aug. 20 to their daughter, Jaclyn, and her husband, Dayton. Fortunately, the new parents live nearby in Whitefish Bay so Janet and Jim can easily spend time with their new grandson and help out with some babysitting, too!

“Many of our friends told us there is nothing like being a grandparent. I totally agree. We feel very blessed.” Janet said.

Congratulations, Janet and family!
