Recommended reading: The Fault in Our Stars

Our final reading recommendation comes from VP Tom Hughes, who was thoroughly converted after initially being unsure about the book:

I’d like to recommend The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green. This novel, while receiving many favorable reviews, did not command my immediate attention, as the genre is not my standard fare. It is not classified as young adult fiction, but could be perceived as such. Do not let that stop you, however — the subject of the novel is very much an adult issue, an the story itself can be painful. Two 16-year-olds meet in a cancer support group and fall in love, while fighting their own personal battles against terminal disease. The book is filled with difficult times, but more important, deep and touching looks at how the two teenagers feel about themselves, each other, their parents and cancer. This is a quick read, but there are moments when you just have to stop and absorb and appreciate Green’s insight. And you come to love the two main characters. My strongest endorsement: I read the book from the library and appreciated it so much, I had to buy my own copy!

And a closing, literature-related suggestion from Training Specialist Jan Born:

My comment is not on a specific book but rather the technology: I’ve been using an Amazon Kindle since “Santa” brought me one for Christmas. I am finally entering this century in technology. I can’t believe what I did before I had the convenience of enjoying so many books at my fingertips along with books on tape to listen to on my trips to NSB-Brookfield. If you’ve never tried a Kindle, I’d highly recommend it. Try it, you’ll love it!
